The bottom end of my stroker is off getting balanced as we speak so now I can start to look at turbo choice. The TD05-big 16G is rated to about 350 -380hp, correct? Mine is clipped and ported also which may or may not affect the power figure.
Before the upgrade started, the engine put out ~240hp at the wheels (FWD) with balance shaft, standard cams, and 2in( bottom ) -2 1/4in(top) intercooler piping and standard throttle body with the above turbo at 18psi.
With forged internals, 272 cams, no balance shaft, 2.5in intercooler piping and 65mm throttle body, the engine should be hopefully producing up around the 350 - 400hp range, so the turbo will be getting a little breathless.
Theoretically, with the parts used, the engines max SAFE AND RELIABLE hp would be around 450hp. I should be looking for a turbo that will flow 450-500hp but as the stroker will only want to rev to about 6500rpm, I don't want something that starts boosting too late in the rev range.
Possibilities: TD05-20g, SCM61 etc
Any suggestions?

the 2.3 is good all the way up to 8k rpm where the flywheel starts to come loose due to balancing problems. You should be good revving it to 7200 no problem. With forged internals it should handle 600-700 as well. I would go with something that is gonna flow at least 65lbs/min. GT35R perhaps or even a SCM61. They flow the same. What type of spool up characteristics are you looking for? I would most likely go with a GT35R for 3500rpm spool up and mid 130 trap speeds.

a 35r would be an awesome turbo for this setup, but the sc61 is cheaper and everyone around here with that turbo absolutely loves it. I feel its a toss up between the two. My buddy has a scm61 on his 2.0L and he gets full boost by 4-4.5k so with the stroker you can be in full boost by 3-3.5k no problem.

anther good possibility would be an fb red turbo, they are good for nines on 2.0L engines, and would spool fantastically on a 2.3l stroker.

oh yeah, if you have hks 272's, then stick with them, if you want somthing a bit bigger,(and ALOT cheaper) designed for stroker engines, pick up a set of fp3 cams, or even bigger, fp4 cams

Im looking for the best spool up characteristics for FWD that will be mostly street driven, so a turbo that starts to spool around 3 - 3500rpm but doesn't peak until around 6500rpm. Has anyone tried the TD06H-25G with this sort of set up as it will bolt onto the headers I already have and I have been told the spool up suits FWD.

Yeah for something like FWD you want a turbo that spools more linearly instead of hitting real hard like a ball bearing turbo that will blow the tires off. SCM61 would fit that profile. I've heard that 25g's are pretty nasty as well. Don't know what their flow and spool characteristics are but probably would be good to do some research on.

a 25g and a scm61 are not in the same class. A 25g is more similar to a t67. Their maps looks very similar. If you went with a scm61 and you want linear power with your 2.3, you will want the q trim wheel as the t350 will spool up real fast.

well before I threw a rod bearing on my colt , the 60 trim that is on it was absolutely awesome, it would boost pretty quickly, I did not really have time to datalog and check everything but I will post more information as I get my car back together

Well the t350 is slightly smaller than the largest wheel you can get on the SCM61 which is the TO4 76 trim wheel. Is that the q trim wheel you are referring to?

Can get hold of this turbo at a good price, opinions:
scm61 with gt 35r componentry,360 thrust bearing,61mm inducter,82mm exducer,can flow 60 pounds of air,35 mm internal wastegate.

SCM61s flow 65lbs/min as do GT35Rs. The SCM61 has the GT40 compressor wheel and you can choose the turbine wheel to match your spoolup and topend performances. If you want slower spool with better topend you can either go with the T350 76 trim or the TO4 76 trim instead of the basic 69 trim wheel. The TO4 is slightly larger than the t350. Don't know too much about the GT35 except that is named after its turbine wheel. I'd go with a standard 360 degree thrust bearing such as the SCM61. You could go full garrett and the SC63 or straight T4, that would be nice and have more HP potential than the SC61/SCM61.

I'm building myself a stroker also...It's only a matter of days before I can turn the key.I bought a full garrett Gt-30.
I have a MAFT, 272's,HKS springs, ported head, 2g ross pistons, 1g rods, fidanza flywheel, act2600 pressure plate/street disk,(everything is balanced) clevite bearings, sbr lsd, custom intake and header, 780cc, FMIC, 3 inch ic piping, 3 inch exhaust, etc...
I will post updates as soon as i can and i would like to hear from you also.
I'm going to Luksville Dragway on June 11th, maybe I'll see you there...
Good luck with your project

Why did you go with a GT30? That thing already spools fast enough on a 2.0 that I would definitely have gone bigger on a stroker motor. Which compressor wheel did you decide to go with and how much does it flow?
