I think the early 8V is all the same 2 piece design. the 90+(?) 12V use a 1 piece manifold with oblong ports & since the distributor location changed the flange is different in that area.

I just pulled mine off the other evening and I found it interesting how the PCV delivers to all 4 intake runners through little passageways cut into the flange at the upper/lower mating surface. but I digress...

something I had been thinking of - the 1.8 SOHC uses a 2 piece manifold as well. the lower portion is totally different as the head ports are spaced differently, but the upper half looks the same but with the larger TB opening & bolt pattern. check out the plenum gasket for the 1.8L:

that looks exactly the same as my Excel gasket including the extra hole for the EGR return port but minus the hole for the 8mm stud center-back. I'm thinking perhaps the 1.8 upper will bolt onto the Excel/CSM 8V lower & allow for mounting the larger 1.8 TB.

there must be someone here who has seen both manifolds that can either confirm or deny this possibility.

Interesting idea! Let us know if it works, there are a lot of 8-valvers here who would die for a good mod!

I'm tempted to go to a parts store with my Excel gasket to try & compare directly with the 1.8, 2.0 or 2.4 single cam gaskets.

the pic I posted is a Beck/Arnley plenum gasket. if anyone has access to a good listing of their stuff you can cross-reference #'s to the 2.0 & 2.4. aside from where I got the pic, I could not find anywhere else that listed the plenum gasket alone for the other apps.

I have a similar upgrade for my Isuzu motor which gave me the idea a while back:
http://www.4g61t.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7910

after pulling my Excel apart the other day, I was pretty shocked to see just how tiny the TB opening really is. I have no real goals of making any power with this motor - it is what it is - but I welcome cheap scavenged upgrades and looking at that tiny thing rekindled the thought.

checking car-part.com, an upper half & TB will run $50 or so + shipping.

THE SURGE TANK ON THE EXCEL IS RATHER LARGE HOWEVER THE TB PORT IS MICRO ITTY BITTY .
I THINK I AM GOING TO TRY THIS JUST AS SOON AS THE GASKET COMPARISON IS MADE . I HAVE alot of these manifolds in my area
did the eclipse have a baseline motor .... the 4g37 ? i may be mistaken
but i have seen goodies on those i want
