Now that I've got the '61t running decent, I want to up the boost. It would be nice to max out the 14b, but I'm still runnin' the stock fuel pump. How much of a restriction is this? Is rewiring it really helpful or should I just get a 190 walbro? How much boost with or without?

I run 22psi on pump gas, stock injectors, and stock fuel pump with no problems.

Have you ever logged your car? i had 450cc and at 16psi on a 14b with a 1g ecu/FP/Mas they peaked at 90+ duty cycle--just seems like 22psi on all stock equipment is a little high

Ummm yeah you got problems if your running 22psi, only a matter of time before the ring lanyards give way due to detonation. Stock pump is not keeping up with those 450cc injectors. I bet if you go dyno your car and have them do some readings you will see your fuel/air ratio is way off and your EGTs are way high. Honestly just a quick way to chack whats up, pull your plugs and report back here what your findings are, as in what color are the plugs and if the tips are being burned off.

I don't have a logger yet either, but am using egt and a/f guages as well as 94 octane. Plus checking the plugs often.

Somethings not right there, plus a 14b at 22 psi is really starting to make more hot air then power. Seen many many cars with 255 pumps 550's and more mods, not able to run 20 psi without knocking, your timing very retarded ie negative 5 or? And a stock sidemount heat soaks and any cars knocks above 18psi on pump on a stock sidemount. Have also seen sevral motors that have very lil sign of detionation but have melted pistions. In short I would back that thing down, remember she always feels strongest right before she breacks. Also most stock BOV leack above 20 psi, which begs the question how much boost are you really making to maintain that 22 psi.

To the orginal question sounds like you have a good mod list, would not wreck your motor by depriving it of fuel, best to spend the $100 and get a fuel pump, every cars a lil diffrent on what boost its happy with, invest in a Data-logger and a EGT gauge.

Most DSMers running in the 11s with a 14B are doing it with a mod list thats twice yours inorder to make up for the 14Bs level of heat it is generating and how inefficent it is while running 20PSI plus of boost. One item that the DSMers are running that makes since is a very large front mount intercooler thats extermly efficent and over kill fora TDO5-14B turbo, just the fact that turbo is generating a ton of heat once it reaches 20PSi of boost or more. A side mount will not cut it due to its size and flow capability, it will be heat soaked very quickly.

Thanks for the input everbody. My next mods before I up the boost to 18 psi will be a fuel pump( didn't really want to drop the tank, but oh well...) and bigger fmic.
What are the dangers of putting this much boost through and old(original) motor even though mine is in good condition(one owner lady driven 'till 2000, no oil consumption)?l
