is it even worth it to run a 2" exhaust with stock headers?

maybe if your exhaust needs replacing anyway why not upgrade, but I wouldn't do it looking for big power. that goes for any mod with this motor in my opinion. even with all that can be done, it still won't be much of a powerhouse so its not worth it.

Safe rule of thumb, upgrade max 1/8 " if staying mostly stock components as this will open up the stock restrictions to the point where they aren't as readily apparent. Turbo and Supercharge are other issues but you won't be sacrificing any bottom end so to speak and you will feel the engine breathe better after the mod.
I personally can attest to bolting on a stock system 1-3/4? up until the last bend before the muffler and then upsized the last bend to 1-7/8" with an adapter to fit to a 2" Cherry Bomb turbo muffler (the oval box type not the red straight through model) following off with a 2" tip out the back.

This yielded a mellow throaty (well good for a 4 cyl) sound that won't draw attention to you until 2500 rpm+. Power was much better, as was initial clutch engagement due to better backpressure characteristics. All this was performed before the 1.8L TB was installed. So that was just the icing on the cake.

I love the way it behaves now and wouldn't change the setup as even the K&N (although good for flow) will increase my engine noise and I don't have a mat under the hood to absorb with (previous owner did a repaint).

I personally think that you will lose torqe and therefore what little civility you have with a small displacement motor for booting around at low speeds (rush hour especially). Don't get me wrong, less backpressure is good but unless you max out the motor, there isn't much need, you'll like your ride much better by staying within a smaller range.

P.S. How is you car modified (if at all) right now?

i havent had my 92 vista 4g15 sohc 12v long but ive hacked the air can so far and removed the silencer. nice sound so far but im looking for more exhaust sound.

I know that you'll like the sound of a Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler, Canadian Tire special (I think they are on special this week, started Saturday). Muffler should run you reg. $40 CAN, and the accessories like clamps (or weld), and muffler cement, a couple of hangers if yours are really reuseable (without a little creativity), and upsize adapters should run another 20-30$, so not that much really.

As for the sound, you won't know that your car is really idling other than a little noise from the tail pipe and the sounds from the engine bay, but when you get into the power you get a little woosh as the power sort of hits it high gear past 3000 and the motor really startes to hum/zoom. I imagine that you will get even more noise with the hack can and restrictor removal, but it will sound a lot meaner that it did. Just don't let you're newly installed muffler hang down like so many other honduh installs.

For that stealthy look, I painted the muffler flat black right up over the axle and onto/into the tailpipe end because this is where most of the rust will start.

Hope this is food for thought, sounds like you'll have an easier time of it now that it isn't -10 outside!

any risks when getting a 1.8 tb from a junker?

bad tps or isc, but thats about it i think....

you should be able to do a straight exchange of your tps and isc from your 4g15 if the 1.8s are bad, and i add another i think to this as well

Imonfyre is right about the swapping of the sensor actuator stuff, with the right TB you can just swap it right over. The one that I put on I got from Berserko and he figured that it came off.... a well its written below

*edit*^ I swapped my TB 4g15 sensor stuff over to the sensorless casting that Berserko sent me. Just remember that you need to perform the right procedure to set your idle speed and line up the ISC (idle speed controller).

Try the 4G15 TECH forum and the post on scrappy parts for the 4G15, authored by Berserko. That post should give you some serious hunting ammo when going to the scrappies.
