I'm possibly switching to SwedeDensity (DSM Speed Density written by Kaxlon...a Swedish fellow who doesn't sleep, lol). The latest build of the software is amazing, and getting better day by day. It's really impressive, and all free! I had the car idling for 15+ minutes, and my afrs were as stable as the stock tune.

http://www.dsmecu.com has all the details, if anyone is interested ;).

Made an HKS-to-DSM BOV adapter. I lucked out and picked this up for cheap, and it's an authentic one too.

Also brought home an AWD rear end...freebie :).

Lucked out and had enough gas left in my welding tank to patch something that I didn't notice before. My passenger strut tower had a lovely hole in it, which was hiding under the paint. Now it's solid, but it's made me wonder what else is hiding in this shell :(.

Stripped the 4G67 head today, and hopefully fixed my oil light problem. The light would come on after the oil got hot, so I didn't know if it was a bad switch or low pressure. For the moment, the junkyard switch I got from a 2002 Elantra seems to be working. My old switch leaked oil like crazy.

It's so funny to see HUGE ports on a head that came from a 1.8l engine, lol.

Holy crap...the day is upon me. Safety check and emissions testing on Saturday at 8am!
Fingers crossed! I'm already stressed, lol.

You'll be fine. Hell, you don't even need working signal lights, plate lights, ball joints can have some play per the manual, cracked windshield but not in the testing mechanics view (he could be tall), and the list goes on. Not that you have any of those problems, but you don't have anything to worry about. Just tell them you have spent the last year stripping and repairing the car, and they will know it is in good hands. You're a shoe in. Whatever that really means.

So glad I don't have to do any of that BS here where I live. Good luck!

Yeah, the ONLY reason I decided to go ahead with this before spring was because I found out that a local Canadian Tire still does the sniffer test. An old friend of mine is the Service Manager there, and he's a hardcore oldschool import car guy. He understands tuning, and the particular needs of 80s-90s cars, so I bring him all my safety/etest business. If I tell him what I've done, he knows I've done it well enough to not have to worry about it. It also helps that it's out in Casselman, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of Ottawa city limits, so I can backroad it there.

Can't wait until sat morn! Maybe tuesday I'll be hunting for insurance! :D

Well, that's the end of that for now. A misfire developed during prep tonight, and it's too late to get plugs/wires. I swapped the ecu (from EEPROM to flashable), coils, ignitor, injectors, etc...nothing fixed it. The plugs don't look that bad, but stranger things have happened. If I can fix it tomorrow, maybe I'll see if I can still book an appointment...but I don't want to rush.

Oh, I also HATE the power steering in these cars apparently. It's too twitchy. I may very well delete it...who knows.

Sand blast the plug. Find out if Canadian Tire has any BPRES7 plugs in stock and get the car there, or go pick up the plugs and return. You've been idling too much while tinkering me thinks.

It's possible. They look ok, but maybe they're just unhappy. I'll get plugs and see what happens.

If I have to wait until next weekend, so be it. It does suck, but it's not going anywhere, haha.

Unless I've got a bad lifter or two...cyl #1 kicked it :(. Comp test showed 50 psi. I'll be doing a leakdown later to confirm.

Rats :(.

So, on the way to my safety/emissions test...I blew cylinder 1. One WOT pull (9psi) was all it took to damage something on my 300+km engine. It sounded like a subaru, and had 50 psi compression. The leakdown test had air blowing out of the dipstick tube too :(.

The moral of this story is this: if you're going to blow an engine, make sure you do it near a friend who hoards all DSM parts he can get his hands on. I now have a completely refreshed 2.0, complete with mitsubishi MLS headgasket, ARP headstuds, and completely non-leaky everything :).
