Run the stock ECU and break it in, then switch over when you know all the base variables are good. 8)
Does Dan have any spare DSM rads? You can run one, but you have to switch the thermostat housing to one with the rad cap on it.

He's got a 2G rad/fan setup, but it's too 'off' to work with my setup. The fans would foul the piping, and the upper hose is in the middle of the upper tank. It's no biggie, I can run it for a few seconds without coolant, just to hear it go, lol.

I sold my emulator recently, and don't have a chip burner here, so I can't run a stock ecu right now. I'd have to burn a chip for the larger injectors/501 MAF before it would work well. I might build a file to prepare though...just in case.

Still got my fingers crossed on the evo8 ecu though, it's so cool :).

Why are you doubting the Evo ecu? I started my car with the 99 ecu no problem.

Make sure you turn off the p0300 code/ misfire detection. My early style Cas made the car run goofy until I did that.

Keep up the good work.

I'm doubting it because it's in my nature to do so, lol.
I HATE the first turn of the key on a new project. It's very stressful, so I like having a backup plan :).

I'm going to go burn a chip for 450s and a 3G MAF, just in case ;).

File written, chip burned, and stock ecu ready for action...if need be ;).

Started on the last of the intake piping tonight, and I have to say I HATE welding piping. Not because I can't do it, but because I always get paranoid that there are pinholes in the welds. I know there aren't any, but my natural paranoia always makes it hard to trust the work. I just need to weld the BOV flange on, and the piping will be finished :).

Put a pipe between the two rad hoses and bypass the rad, you can at least have coolant in the system while it runs, up until the thermostat wants to open. Might get a bit hot in the motor at that point. Kind of like the stock hot pipe intake setup. 8)

Intake piping finished, now I just need some clamps. I love how the 501/3G eclipse MAF fits the stock intake pipe perfectly :).

I have to do the coolant lines to the heater core, plug off a few open ports, get some vacuum line, put the thermostat and oil in...and turn the key. Very nervous, I hate first startups.

Tomorrow is definitely the day.
I'm not going to be able to sleep.

I did. I woke up stressed, lol. I REALLY hate the anticipation of startup day.

Had some initial issues, but it eventually fired up and ran :).

It worked on either the stock ecu chipped for the 501 MAF and 450s, or the Evo 8 ecu. Very happy right now, especially since the previous owner said he couldn't get it to pass emissions testing due to some oil burning. I did the valve stem seals, and I can say it doesn't burn a drop right now. There's no exhaust, so I would have noticed the blue smoke filling my garage, lol.

Definitely stoked :).
I'll probably run it on the stock ecu for a while, to get it through the emissions testing. Once it's through that, then I'll start playing with the evo ecu. I still have to get it 'appraised', put it in my name, and safety it...not to mention finding a rad and fans.

Cars sure are fun! lol.

Big thanks to Mr. Flying Admin :prayer: . Thanks to him, I am now MUCH closer to being able to let my car run for more than a minute at a time. Huge thanks are owed :D.

I'll hopefully be tackling a few more big jobs on the car this weekend, as well as going to a Star Trek movie double header at the local indie theatre (The Wrath of Khan, and The Search for Spock). Good way to spend someone's 40th bday weekend I think :).

Didn't get much work done at work today. Instead, I spent a few hours poking away at making a neat little subroutine for the stock DSM hexcode. I don't have a way of turning my rad fan on with the stock ecu, so I turned the FPS output into a fan controller :). It will now trigger a relay at 90*C to fire up the fan, and it will turn off at 82*C. When I go to the Evo ecu, I'll get the stock fan controller and run everything right from the ecu. For now though, until the car is through the safety/emissions tests, this will have to do.

I'd try to test it tonight, but since we've had 20cm of snow since last night...I'm going to be doing a lot of shovelling when I get home :(.
