OK so I saw this wagon posted up on craigslist about a month ago for $700 with a bad trans. Its a 2.4L, fwd auto. The guy didn't post a contact # and I guess all of my replies went to his spam box or something because I could not get in contact with him to buy it to save my life. I see him update the ad every few days so I know its still for sale but I can't get up with him. So weeks go by and I basically give up. We see the 94 Mighty Max and decide to go and take a look and end up buying it. Yes, you guessed it. The following day I get a call from the owner of the summit saying it was still available.

So I basically tell him that I'm no longer in the market since I bought the truck but to send a few more detailed pics anyway if he would. So he does and I look it over and its in pretty decent shape. I talk him down to $500 over the phone but after sleeping on it I still decide to pass since I don't need another Mitsu in the yard, much less one that I can't drive. A few more weeks go by and he still has it and lowers the price to $400. I kindly offer him $300 just to see what would happen hoping he would say no. Well he does but a few days later he counters with $350 and we drive to the beach to check it out.

Once I see it in person I knew I just had to have another one of these things. I figure I could either rebuild the auto tranny or do a manual swap on the cheap. Especially since it ran so good and only had 150k on it. Plus he did a lot of maintenance and stuff on it. So we go back the next day on my birthday and load it on the dolly and bring it home. Other than a little clear coat fade on the roof and hood and the cheesy fake civic hubcaps its not bad. I popped the hood and saw that it was one of the ultra rare ABS models which means it had rear discs on it  .

I have no idea where this project is going. From past experiences I know that total rebuilds on cars never really work out so I hope I can just get it running asap and drive it. Then I'll go from there. Anyway here are some pics of the beast.

That looks like it must have a pretty clean underbelly, no?

I love those things-had two. Friggen auto's in them are a nightmare though.

They seem to either have the same or similar trans to the 94-98 galants which I see in the junkyards a lot with bad trannies. 99% sure I'll be doing a manual swap. Last time I swapped a 94 Colt Vista there was a donor in the yard, I may have to get creative this time around though.

All your missing now is a dsm and a starion, then you'll be able to sell tickets to your mitsubishi museum. :D

Honestly I don't care much for the starions and I've had at least 25 dsm's over the years. Who knows though, if I find one cheap I'll drag it home  .
