Hey guys, I'm new here. I've just completed a 4g63 sohc auto to dohc manual conversion on a 6g galant. I'm an enthusiast of the 4g61/63/67 motors. I've learned a lot doing my conversion so hopefuly my input might be of some value on this forum.

I want to run a data logger and in order to do so I need to get a single board ecu, I had been told to upgrade to a single board for this reason but being a noob I didn't listen well, untill I found out the hard way.
I did find a single board ecu for sale localy though.
It's being sold as a 4g63 ecu, it was used in a 4g63 mirage and the parts place the guy origionaly bought it from sold it to him as a 4g63 ecu. Now I just searched the numbers and it turns out it's from a 4g67 gti 16v. Now my question is, will there be any power loss, efeciency loss etc by using this ecu? does it even matter? obviously it runs a 4g63 with no problems. Numbers on ecu are

The easiest thing, in my opinion, would be to get an eprom ecu and have someone burn you a chip with the correct .bin you need. The dsm ecu group on yahoo has nearly every ecu .bin from mitsu and can help you out. If you're just looking for a 4g63t non-eprom (no chip), they can be had for $50-60 on nearly every dsm forum including here.

If you had to run the 4g67 ECU, then try and grab the 4g67 MAF and 4g67 sized injectors; there will be a thread somewhere in the engine archives/swap archives showing motors and injectors they use. It will probably run best this way and won't be too far off. Heck, you may be able to use stock 4g63 injectors and it may run alright. I ran a 4g61t on a chip designed for a 4g63t, with a 2G maf, 4g63t injectors (450cc), etc, so a chip is best to get your base injector dead time and so on and so forth.

Thanks for the advice, however I'm talking about non turbo motors. I just want a single board so I can data log. The New Zealand mitsubishis seem to always have these duel board ecu's. Though now I'm thinking an E-prom unit could be a good idea. I've seen 4g63 eclipse eprom N/A ecu's on ebay for around $150. Can a eprom N/A ecu be later chipped to run as a turbo?

With an eprom, you can run just about any of the 4g motors, just as long as the chip is burned with the correct .bin for that motor. I believe you'd need an eprom that has a knock board for turbo applications though. Eproms are expensive, usually around 150. For a non turbo ecu, I'd suggest posting a wtb ad on one of the galant forums and skip ebay, the ecus on there are way overpriced.

Something happend just after the last post on here, I went outside and took the ECU from my other car (1990 JDM 6g galant viento 4g67 auto) and took the cover off, right infront of me was the EProm chip So I bought the non eprom ECU that this thread is about to replace the one I took from my other car. Now I have a 4g67 eprom ecu that seems to have leaking caps but works. So I think I will order replacement caps and a socket for the eprom and get an electronigs person to fit them.

Question, it's for a 4g67. If I replace the eprom chip with one for a 4g63 will it essentialy become a 4g63 ecu? is there a place I can buy a standard chip? or would it be cheaper to buy a burner, burn the standard .bin (thanks guys for the link to yahoo) E931 (is that a NA 4g63?) and put it in there? The chips seem to be cheap, as are the burners.

Nah, I was just in your shoes once, researching everything. There's another option that I went with, moate's emulator. It's essentially a chip with a cable coming out of it that you can plug into your computer. It lets you change the .bin without buying/burning new chips and lets you modify the a/f+timing tables along with other things. I'm sure you've heard of dsmlink and it's kind of like that but costs a lot less. If you're interested in learning more about it pm me.
