the bottom line to me is this: there is no replacement for displacement, whether it be 4 cylinders or .4 liters.

.35 liters

If your gonna pick nits make sure you get it right.

The difference is exactly 402cc or 0.402 litres.

4G63 - 1997cc
4G61 - 1595cc

I find it is alot more then how much power it makes but what you want your engine to drive like.

If you like to rev the snot out of your engine go for the 1.6 cause it likes to rev and seems to have most of its pull in the higher rpm's.

If you like just raw tourque at a low rpm go for the 63. it will not like the high revs as much but it is a preference of where you want your power to be.

Also would all the extra tourque of the 63 make it that much harder to keep traction?

The 1.6 pistons are actually weaker than the 2.0 stock for stock. The land rings are thinner and more prone to cracking if you get bad knock...but they are still stronger than most factory pistons.
i second that!

My 4g61t pistons

87 octane + turbo = bye bye piston

HAHAHA, that looks identical to my #2 cylinder. #3 had only broken a section off the top ring. I somehow got my base timing way off and didn't notice....maxing the knock count for a couple weeks, not good.

Engine 4G61T 4G63T
Horsepower 135@6,000RPM 190@6,000 55HP
Torque 141@3,000RPM 203@6,000 62T
Injectors 390CC 450CC 60CC
Turbo 11B 14B

Main differances besides size of motor and internals are 1.6 does not have balance shafts, and as for the 2.0 it gots even more edge stock for stock because it has a intercooler, larger injecters, larger turbo, larger intake manifold, larger exhaust manifold, and etc. Im sure you can make up the 55HP and 62 torque if you switch simple things which i have listed. But a person looking to get over 300+ horses on a daily driver should probbaly look towards a 2.0 rather then a 1.6

300+ horses on a daily 61T is very possible I believe.....I'm shooting for 325whp in mine. yeah it will be a standalone computer car but still a daily. The 61 does have shorter ringlands but it also has an almost opitmal stroke which will make up for some of the drawback of the ringlands.
