Sorry guys, I'm a big disappointment! Since the last update no new news. My summer weekends so far have mostly been spent at the lake. I have the transmission sitting in my garage ready to go to the shop to get the insert and Colt shifter arm welded on. Once that's done I just need to put in the hours to finish it, it's really really close. Could be spring before it's really done but it will be done to the best of my ability and knowledge so that I hopefully don't have to do any of it over again!

Tom

No offense Tom, but I think this is the slowest 4g63t swap on earth lol.

None taken :) In the time it's taken me when I actually do the work, lol....I think it's going pretty fast! I have built several other cars in the meantime from start to finish, this one just seems to keep getting back burner'd.

I have to have had one of the longest rebuilds here on the site just for a Colt that is, cause just for the motor/trans/fuel pump rewire and interior cleanup it took me 1.5 years before it hit the pavement under its own power again. 8)

So I know it's been ages since I've updated you guys but there is finally some movement toward this thing being ready for 2008 summer action :)

Moving the Colt away from my buddy Bryan's garage and into my parents shop however many months ago was a big step backward because it took the car even further from my house. Only getting to spend weekends with my girlfriend leaves me wanting to just hang out with her rather than work on any of my cars even though we always seem to have just as much fun projecting. She's been one of the only reasons I've made any progress at all and is hugely supportive in general so I can thank her for taking this step.

With the car just over an hour's worth of driving just to get to and from to work on it makes it tough. The few times that I did I often found that I'd left a tool at my place that I needed to complete a project I had planned for the day which only made it that much more frustrating. My house is still on the market so I haven't been able to move into a place that would allow inside storage of the Smurf so moving it closer hasn''t really been a convenient option. Given all that, I've realized that with my other projects and the weekend situation not changing in the near future that I really do just need to relinquish completion of the project to the pros.

All that said, Mo and I buttoned up the front end of the car sans transmission (I'd taken it back out to install an "LSD insert") and loaded all of the misc. parts in the gutted back half of the interior to get it tow ready. Sometime soon I'll be dollying it to Lucas at English Racing - www.englishracing.net to finish the job and get it ready for the track. He'll be finishing work on the fuel system, transmission, gauges, exhaust, cage and other various work needing completed so I can get down to breaking some hearts on the freeway and at the track!

With the turbo kit, intercooler kit and other misc. equipment from Extreme Turbo Systems (where I work), he built and tuned Paul Nelson's 1014whp EVO that was on the January cover of Modified magazine. He's been at the forefront of making 4g63s sickly fast for many many years as lots of you local guys already know 8) Given that and his awesome team I have no doubts that the car will be finished right! I'm really looking forward to actually being able to drive it and will keep you guys posted as we draw closer :D

Engine bay in complete disarray as usual :)

Passenger side GVR4 hub, Rotora rotor (sadly surface rusted from sitting around), new Elantra LCA w/ new ball joint, SS lines, Eibach spring and Koni strut all back in!

And finally bolting up the world's most hideous 15" chrome don't get you home wheels. Ready to tow out of there!

One of these years this project will get priority again! I was just about ready to get started working on it again...then the hydroplane happened :)

Any updates? This looks like it will be a real monster when it's complete! When it does hit the road you'll remember what all the hard work was for. Don't give up on it man.

As you guys can tell from the dates, this project has long stalled. I've been investing my time and interest elsewhere and just can't realistically see myself finishing this project any time soon. Since it's a really nicely done swap that's nearly complete and a big hunk of money just laying around doing nothing, I feel almost obligated to the project to pass it on to someone who will do it justice. I'd like to sell it to put the money into something else, but if the market won't bear what I feel it'd take to justify the sale then I'll just hang tight.

$3950 with everything pictured in this thread for stock parts, turbo Mirage parts and all aftermarket parts. Everything is there to finish the swap and wiring is basically all that's needed to have a running/driving rocket ship that was done right from start to almost finish :) I'll throw up a for sale thread here in the next couple of days with a link to this thread. I may also be willing to part the uninstalled parts out depending on offers so let me know.

Tom
