 Post subject: Swap subforum

This is a great forum and all, but it seems like the information is too scattered. I noticed that a there a always tons of questions regarding the different swaps. Such as a 4g63t into a 4g15 chassis and swapping out to different rotors. I think it would be good to add a subforum for all swap related questions. As I was working on my engine swap, I wasn't sure where to look. In the 4g61/4g63 section, general section, newbie section. etc. The archives are good, but some of the posts are a little too vague. Then when people who searched and couldn't come up with an answer they felt was adequate asks a question, they get flamed for not using the search button.
Thank you moderators for maintaining this site. It seems as though many of the old mirage, summit, colt, lancer pages are long gone. This is one of the few left and has helped me tremendously.

I and some other mods are diligently working on making the info archives more concise. At least in regards to cross-reference material. So keep looking and ask away. You wont always get flamed! :wink:

another little issue is our smallish membership. i mean, if we had a couple thousand active member's, it'd be a different story. but since we have so few people on here, we gotta keep everything vague or you'd be going to different subforums in the archives and find only one post (and that'd just piss me off if i was looking through there). also, if you have a fear of flaming, the newbie section is your safe haven. i know a lot of people don't like to (and some downright refuse) to post in the newbie area, but we all have a mind fart from time to time...

want to know why noobs or just people in general get flamed? its cause of questions like this.........how do i swap a 2.0T motor in my car? or whats the differance between C, S, M

I would understand if someone is posting outside of the newbie forum and asking questions like that, but the newbie section is at least there for them. There is no need to tell them to search. At the very least, don't respond to their post or provide a link to help them out. It seems to not promote sharing of ideas when someone is told to go search and usually ends the topic. Also I have asked a question where I had some difficulty finding the answers, and I posted it in the newbie section. I asked if I can use any of the motor mounts in the colt or eclipse. I already knew that the elantra mounts would work, but I wanted to save some time and money by not having to pull all of them as many suggested.

First--You suck at the internet-double post-Hehe. Second since it seems imposisble for newebies to this site to read why would a swap section even help. If you found that elantra mounts work in the same section is what mounts would work from the CSM and that no eclipse mounts work. the reasson people get flamed is exactly that, everyone wants a detailed step by step helper for them to put thier car together for $3.25 cents, and not take time to read. Stick around in any forum and you will see these same questions are asked every month soemtimes 10 times a month. Every time someone see's a turbo colt they come here and thier first post is something to the effect of I read the archives but I could not find, or I searched and could not find what mounts work and what I can use off what engine. When its so clear in the archives its scary, what the archives should say is, if you read all this and are still unclear, stop now, you don't have the mechanical ablity to do this swap.

ok, cleaned up the double post.

now, what was i gonna say... i do have a little bit of a problem with some of the write-ups on here saying that all you need is a csm, general swap materials, a socket set, and a free weekend. that's just not true. i've been working on my swap since march (granted not going nearly as fast as i could have) and am just now starting to wrap things up. the thing people lose sight of easily on here is that it's NOT a walk in the park change out your sparkplugs deal. an engine swap is just about the most intensive thing you can do to your car short of making a tube chassis and drag racing with the pros. i don't see any flaming going on with your mount post though... someone told you the answer, and someone else clarified further for you. if they were flaming you, you never would have gotten the answer and instead gotten a face full of insults to your manliness or something. perhaps you should hang around tooners or some of the other dsm forums to really appreciate how much we actually give a damn around here... :-?

So true. Many of us are different ages, and come from different walks of life. I just sold my Turbo Colt to a board member who's almost young enough to be my son for christs sake.

We had a minor falling out which contents made its' way to the baord, but he and I were able to hash things out offline.
What I'm getting at is most of us on this board do give a f*ck about each other.
All we ask is that our newer member use a little common sense when they are either ASKING a question, or using the SEARCH function.

ie: If "mounts" didn't give you the desired info.
Try ELANTRA motor mounts, or something to that effect. :)
If the info wasn't to your standards, then EXPLAIN the info you recieved and then ask specifics. Some of us who have done the swap can then chime in, and iron out any rough edges.

We're here for ya bro'. Dont give up on us.... :rolleyes:
