Here's that balance shaft which spun bearings.
The rear bearing came out of the journal and this shaft was simply spinning in the block with no bearing. (Notice the blue and sheared off metal.)
The front bearing is completely seized to the shaft ( notice how the bearing is being squeezed out)

Done with disassembly and diagnosing onto the rebuild and mods.
Here is the block oil port mod
massaging the hump down a bit and polishing the channel per jafro videos

I'm kind of jumping around here on the assembly phase,
Everything is back from the machine shop.
Here's how the crank polished up. All the journals are uncut only a polish and all are in spec.

The crank turned out great but look at all that junk i'm washing out out it. These pics are round 3 of brakeleen + compressed air
and the debris in the pic is only a 1/3rd of what came out the first two times.

I want to thank to Lancerman who over a year ago provided me with a solution on how to clean behind the infamous "crank balls"
without removing them. its in the 3rd pic (bent spray tips).

If i ever do this again i'm removing the balls no matter how much of a pain in the ass. i do have a tig welder now so i bet i could do it.

Super glad you were in contact with lancerman and you guys were on the "ball" because I was going to suggest removing the balls for cleaning too.

Should be better knowing everything is "super" clean when it is all assembled and fired up.

Removing them isn't easy. I had the machine shop fool around with trying to centerpunch and drill them out. They weren't successful and said it wouldn't be worth the cost to keep trying. They were just being honest.

I've read you have to try to tack weld something to them and then slid hammer them out. I wasn't going to have them attempt that.

I now have acquired another shortblock with a pretty trashed crank I may practice on that someday

keeping it going here....

After the crank was clean i plastigauged it and installed it with new acl bearings.
It checked out on spec. the measurements pre machine shop were spot on so i didnt expect the plastigauge to be off
but its still good insurance to check after changes such as polishing the crank, new bearings, and adding main studs.
Next the stock but resized rods were installed as well.
Note the arp main studs and rods bolts as the only mod
