Everything mentioned can and would work, from any EPROM ECU of the 1G/Galant VR4 4g63 variety.
SAFC will be a compromise, any piggyback device will also be compromise.
I would suggest like most now, that any recent version of ECMLink (from 2.5 to 3.0) is your new best friend.
What sensors and harness will be used?
I suggest link with an EPROM ECU for many reasons, all of which are going to get you better driveability and smooth out your timing curves.
I might suggest finding a 3G Montero/3000GT "482" MAS to couple with Link.
I was just reading that all the MAFs like the 2G 609 and EVO 399 and 3G 482 shape used the same electrics but they were tuned with different air horns to match their intended useage. Running a 3" intake snorkel from a filter to smooth out incoming air before entering the sensor honeycomb would be the most ideal combination to realize minimum flat spotting in your timin Maps from modified or higher output setups because of excessive turbulence through the MAF. Also, never clean your MAF sensor with sensor/brake cleaners. They are coated and not like GM hot wire sensors.
The 482 sensor also uses a 1G/4g61t intake snorkel type fitting that is right around 3-1/8" diameter. Perfect fit on my 4g61t snorkel but the snorkel hits my other intercooler pipes pretty badly, so a 3" OD intake snorkel that came with the Jon Reimer M&S Recycling setup is the next option. Problem is, there is currently no recirc option plumbed in yet. Oops!
I'm on the fence.
Forgot to mention the 3G flows with the least pressure drop and nearly, nearly identical to the EVO 399 sensor. In fact they are the same housing just a slightly different air horn.
There is a thread on everything you need tonknownabout the 3G MAS that I found last night. Googled it, very very informative.
