This is long overdue. I bought this car a couple of years ago when i had bought a major fixer upper house but as a car lover i just couldn't pass it up. Ive owned a bunch of cars and motorcycles prior to this (a dsm 2, 240sxs, 2, 70's novas a yamaha r6 yamaha xs650 etc. i had to sell my latest car the 90 240sx coupe to pay taxes on my newly acquired house but i still cruized on craigslist for fun and i came across this car on craigslist out of seattle. i vaguely knew of these cars from a super old sport compact car article back in the day and i decided to buy it.

the car pretty much sat as is for 2 years and After 3 years of house rebuilding i now live with my GF and our new amazing son. My house being rented out and her house having a carport has got me squeezing in car time as much as possible (those who have kids know what im talking about).

but now ive been improving things and working on the car while enjoying what you guys are doing on the forum so i decided its time to share my trials and tribulations with my csm project before i get so far i ahead i cant relay my experience in an accurate fashion. ok so anyways here is my 1989 Colt GT and im located in the Pacific Northwest in little old Astoria OR (home of the goonies).

well in terms of trapping booty i wont comment. but this isn't new.. you will recognize the car.

i hope everyone checked out the link to what the car was like when i bought it. basically totally stock.
The very first mod was a craigslist find of new wheels. After finding something in a 114.3 with approximately the right offset i had to jump on it these were 16s". (16x7.5 rim 40mm offset with 205/50/16). next time i"d go with a narrower wheel maybe 6.5 or so and possible just a little less offset 35-38 or so for the perfect fit.
In the 4g61 circles, its as big as you can go. I agree but i've seen some 17's that weren't horrible. ie: ronnies .. http://www.4g61t.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=38722

as far as the stance goes... it looks lowered in the front and kinda lifted in the rear. i recently took the front end apart and the springs look stock with no evidence of cutting so im assuming it is stock parts with a bit of sagging in the front.

Also noted in the intro thread, the clutch was slipping so bad, i barely got the car home so I installed an act 2100 clutch by way of installing a dsm flywheel. the flywheel swap was the first thing i learned on this forum. and the lightly used clutch was purchased through this forum as my first forum purchase!

after the clutch install i noticed how much the engine jumped around in the bay when my bro pulled it out of the garage one day. so my next mod became a custom front motor mount to utilize a poly bushing. i had seen a guy on here who made a mini from motor mount for clearance issues for his turbo set up. that is what inspired me.

i have worked in a fantastic blacksmithing/metal shop for the last 11 years so i whipped up this mount out of aluminum. the skills and tooling in this shop will show up again throughout this build thread. Here is where i work. we make custom decorative home furnishing out of iron for fancy people

im not going to post part numbers because i had to turn everything to fit on a lathe making it pretty much impossible for someone to follow and have a plug and play solution sorry

it looks as if people do this mod in many ways but it makes a big difference and i plan
to do it to the rear mount as well. i feel that i read once that one of the dsm poly mounts will fit the rear motor mount? Anyone sure one that subject and have a part number or more info?

LMAO I know that feeling.. I got into the habit of when I take pics I put them on my pc within a few hours... then I open 2 tabs.. one for this forum..and 1 for photobucket.. once there on PB.. i just copy link.. click forum tab and paste.. click back to PB tab and so on.. but even that way its still time consuming specially with lots of pics (like my last build update has) lol.

A long time ago I owned a tsi and I really never got into the car or knew much about turbo cars or dsms. I ended up trading it for another car but I have hung onto this extra 14b for probably 10 years now. It was always just sitting in storage or a basement but who knew I now have a car which would love this for an upgrade.

In preparation for the upgrade I bought a 1g manifold from a guy locally and kinda kicked myself later when I decided to use it. It had cracks and the turbo mating surface was pretty hammered. Luckily I have access to some cool tools so this is my manifold rebuild post.

I grooved out and tig welded the cracks with stainless rod. I then chucked the manifold onto the milling machine and resurfaced the turbo mating surface

Oh its rediculous I agree ha ha. I have the skills and tooling so it was just a couple hours after work one evening. But yeah you figure an hr for machining and an hr for welding at shop rate $80/hr thats 160 bucks plus the 50 I embarrassingly admit to spending on the thing in the first place.

now that I have a child i know I shouldnt be spending money on my car so im coming up with really creative ways to keep my hobby going without spending money. There will be plenty more "improvements" made in this ultra low buck fashion. Your time is free right??? Lol :drinkers:
