i need to improve my shifter in my 3g badly, the thing has stupid amounts of slop. combo is dsm fwd trans, colt shifter arms, everything else is stock 1.5 colt.

after checking archives we find 4g csm shifter is bolt in and does what im looking for. while pondering this it occured to me that evo 3 i believe, is somewhat closely related to the 4thgen csm no? and evo's would probably have some aftermarket or at least better factory parts then usdm csms. wachu thinki?

Have you sourced an Evo shifter of that generation? If you can find one and the design is similar to what the 3g uses then yes you could make it work.

On the other hand you could just fix the 3g shifter.
im probably just going to score a 4g shifter but this occured to me while thinking about it.

I'm willing to bet that an evo 1-3 and a 4g csm shifter are the same.

I have a DSM B&M short shifter in my Mirage. Never had any problems with it.

I bet the same thing. _Jay used the 4G shifter in his car a long time ago, and said it worked well; lots of writeup on 4G shifters now too.

Most usual problems with any shifter of a decent age is the pivot parts/bushings. A total refresh will bring it back to life, a 4G style with a freshen-up will more than likely feel just as good but with a better throw pattern.

The base is the same. The shifter arm tilts to the right side. A friend with an evo 1 gave me one from from a car that was written off that was used to do a 4g swap. I put it in my 3g sedan.

You could easily bend the shifter arm and say its from a RHD car.

I might be jumping into this a bit late, but I can confirm that they are exactly the same :)

Beware of these, they say 93-01 mirages but I just picked up a 4g base and shifter and they are are not the same as the pictured short shifters. These will only work on the Fifth generation Mirages (1997-2002) and evo 4-9.

So its confirmed that the early evo's (1-3) have the same shifter parts. Now I gotta track down a short shifter!

Mr. Hyde, what bushings did you use to refresh the pivot points?
This is headed to the archives, if we don't already have an exact post such as this in place.
