To make a long story somewhat short I've had my share of Colt's as daily drivers back when I was going to school and as well had 2 89 Turbo Colt GT's. I converted one 200e Colt from auto to 5 speed, then to a 4G61T from the 1st 89 I bought (that chassis wasnt' the best of shape). In 2003'ish I Got my hands on a silver 1989 Turbo GT which had the turbo removed, and proceeded with a build on that one. Lost my harddrive a few years ago along with all the pics of the build up. Things changed, my brand new Genuine EVO III 16g went after only 2000km's (warranty would not cover it) and the car was parked in sept 2005. I went 4 years without wrenching on a car, just drove my daily drivers and that was it. The end of 2008 I went for a ride with a friend who had a 1999 Eclipse with a GT35r and 2.3L stroker in it, I was like WTF, it felt insane after being away from boosted cars for some time. In 2009 I bought a 1998 Talon TSi AWD turbo with some mods, then starting modding more and racing 1/4, 1/8 and Auto X, best time on stock bottom end and FP green to date is 11.3 @ 126. So a pretty quick rundown that brings up to the fall of 2010. So lately I have been working on a GT Turbo Colt Conversion. The revivial of my old colt has begun. The main goal is to revive and get running again for minimal $$. The talon is still #1, so don't expect perfect pics or brand new parts all around. It's going to be a combo of old or used parts, some new as I go along.

So after sitting for many years the 1989 Colt GT needed a donor car. I live in Newfoundland and for those of you who don't know it's harsh on metal, salt from the ocean and salted winter roads, we see rust ALL the time :(
Below, the donor car, the gem I picked up for $100 with the help of a buddy of mine and towed it back home. (approx 4 hour drive) A 1991 Dodge Colt 200e Automatic 1.5L N/A, original paint from Labrador ( for those who don't know, it's part of newfoundland, however it's more north, colder, more snow and NO SALT used, so metal tends to stay in great shape) I will post pics and updates as I get time.

After towing it back from lewisporte, (engine ran but had bottom end knock), I couldn't wait to take some of the interior up to see what kind of shape it was in. :D

Not bad shape at all for a 1991 up here, I was more than pleased to get such a rare find. I do have some Eastwood Rust converter and Encapsulator to use on any rust spots on the floor, no holes or soft spots, just surface rust, so that will all be looked after before the carpet goes back down :)

So in order to do most of the work "close by" I needed somewhere to stash the chassis to work on out of the weather and to keep it close by the old Colt. Good old Crappy Tire portable garage was the answer!

Once I had the portable garage finished and had the car inside, the next step was to take the engine and transmission out of the 89 Colt, of course outside in the cold lol.
ImageImage
Now the trick to get the engine across the backyard, (about 100 feet) to the storage unit was tangly, with some help from Kevin, a friend of mine, we managed to make it

Next was to start the 5 speed conversion, I needed to drill some holes to fit the Clutch Master Cylinder. I know, engine bay is dirty, Almost 20 years of dirt, I gave it a quick cleaning before dropping the engine in.

Then to install the clutch pedal and master cylinder
I'll need to modify the Brake pedal a little lol Something I've done before
Image
Master Cyinder with a new clamp and a coat of paint. engine bay still not fully cleaned. lol
Image
Shifter Assembly and cables installed, a bit rusty, didn't bother to paint, no one will see it. I'm low on time from study, band gigs, and work, etc and I have the talon to tend to as well, so I'm not going into great detail if not needed. You can see the automatic cable is still there, I'll remove that once I get the car up in the air.

I'm almost to date with the posting of picture's, lately wrenching has been slow because of being so busy. I had to remove the head lights', front bumper, grill, etc to start the FMIC fabbing and installation.

I haven't "mounted" it to date, so I don't have any decent pics, but after the 26th I'll be back at it.
Also repainted the FMIC piping and BOV

Decided to give the engine bay a "quick" cleaning before dropping the 4G61T down into her. Wish it was warmer so i could have done a proper job and pressure washed the shit out of it lol.
ImageImage
The then it was time to drop her in, thanks to 2 friends of mine for the helping hand it getting the motor and tranny from the storage unit to the portable garage, was a tough task to handle alone lol.
ImageImage
Perfect fit!
Decided to make my own urethane engine mounts

ImageImage
This is pretty much the car to date, so the next updates won't come as fast lol.

The courier was good to me today! My new to me turbo showed up. A Small 16g, a nice modest upgrade from the factory 11b or even a talon/eclipse 14b  I'll be porting the exhaust housing just a little to gain some more flow, below is without the exhaust housing.

Great build so far. Unless all of this happened this morning I think you've been hiding this awesome revival from us :(

What are you planning for wheels and tires? Any chance this is becoming AWD ever?
