So my 4g61t is getting tired. This car is my daily driver so I am sourcing ways to get a replacement motor that I can drop in w/o having to do much fussing.

Purchasing a 1.6 or 2.0 JDM motor is an option. I did a bit of searching, mainly from a page RRE had regarding JDM motor resellers. Seems the 2.0's are about a grand and one place had the 1.6 for $525.

Has anybody ever purchased one? Either the 1.6 or 2.0. If so, how was the outcome? You always hear the negative stories about ordering these motors, but never the positive ones.

So, anybody have a reputable place they know of to order them from? Of course I would love to hear of places to stay away from as well.

Thanks,

$1350 is a good deal for a rebuilt long block? Yikes. I think I'm in for sticker shock as I go motor shopping then.

correct me if i'm wrong here... but i don't think that 300 bucks will buy ya a practically new engine with all new seals, pumps, everything and hot tanked and whatever else they clean it up with (much less a 6 month warranty). i paid 1100 for a running motor that didn't have all that... just a new timing belt and water pump.

no, $300 will get you a 6-bolt longblock that came out of a running car (or a car that ran until ecu went bad, trans crapped, etc etc etc). Most are used with anywhere between 60k-130k on them. Not new by any means, but if the compression is good, who cares IMO.

And if you paid $1100 for yours....then either you guys are getting dicked, or I get sweet deals.

It helps to know DSM people in your area and be patient to find a good deal. I picked up my 4g63 longblock with complete 14b setup, intake manifold, throttle body, flywheel and an ACT 2600 for $800.

Yea that motor might as well be new if what they said was done is done. You can't get a motor bored cleaned and milled for $300 in my area, I realize everyhwere is diffrent and MD has a high cost of living. If I could find a $300 long block around here no one else would ever get one cuase I buy them all day long.

Thats what people need to understand just cuase your one frieind got a smoking deal, or some dude on tunners in east bum fruit and banana got his whole motor rebuilt with labor for $500 cause the cost of living is so cheap does not mean if you live in new york city where the avarage small apartment 700sqft rents for $3Ka month in an okay nabiorhood, you will get that same deal. My cost of living and warehouseing for instant is 3 times as much as slowboy racing, and if we sell parts for the exact same price guess what that means.

the $300 isn't for a rebuilt motor, its for a motor just yanked out of a DSM, no reconditioning, but compression tested and in good working order.

And that isn't a "my friend bought this" price. Its the price you can buy the thing for from a shop. I guess its just the perk of living 2 miles from the plant, and having a rediculous amount of dsms laying around for parts cars.

I'd be scared of that engine but that's just me. It can't be built with OEM Mitsu parts for that price. Who knows though, it may run forever.

We can get motors like that here in MN for 150.00 used to be 100.00 but you will need to pull it yourself. Allot of times it is just tranny that is messed up...
