The local university sells off all their old gear. I bought a Sun Ultra 10 1GB Ram 10gb HD, 20GB HD, 440MHz, Type 6 kb /mouse, 24" 16:9 Widescreen CRT Sony Monitor all for $100 CDN This monitor looks awesome but unbelieveably heavy. Its a really nice peice of geek gear.

I'm still looking for a SGI I had an indy a few years back loved it. An old roomate had a DEC Alpha a few years back it was a sweet unit too. I love old Unix gear. I have a 19" Rack in my Basement it used to hold an old DEC VAX unit. A bit too retro even for me.

I picked up two DEC personal workstation 433u boxes for free. I then got 1.5gig of ram each donated :)

I'm going to put one in my garage just so I can view PDF files :)

Now a PDP11 I agree is too old. There isn't any practical use for them. A Sun Ultra 10 is still faster than most PCs 64 bit 440 MHZ IO the wazoo I would like to buy an 420R but I doubt I need 4x450MHZ 64 bit processors. A DEC even old 433 or 533MHz are still very quick despite them being nearly 10 years old they were 5 years ahead of their time. an SGI are still used in alot of movies for rendering. All the Geek unix gear I'm buying has practical uses.

If you have 10yr old gear that was 5yrs ahead of its time doesn't that just mean you have gear that is 5yrs behind current times?

:P

I used to have a ton of that stuff, but since I was never really able to figure out Unix, I sold most of it off for cheap when I moved. I had a sweet loaded Indy (R5000 200MHz) for a while but couldn't get a dang operating system to install on it.

I think I may have an old IBM RISC and an HP left, as well as some bits and pieces. Tim, if you want 'em they're yours for free.
