Hi everybody
i figure its about time to introduce myself since I've been lurking here since sep 2012.
so probably 8 months ago i was cruising craigslist as usual and i found an add for this 89 colt gt in seattle.

they wanted 1800 and i looked at it but didnt think to much of it
because i had bought a major fixer upper house a year before that and i knew i needed to keep my priorities straight.
As the weeks went by i kept seeing the add and a slow price drop. finally on a whim i thought well ill just call the guy. he told me all about the car and i offered him $1000 and that i would come straight away that evening with cash.

he said ok and i called up my brother to act as a driver and on that thursday evening we jumped in the car and blasted up to seattle (4 hours)
to buy a $1000 car that i knew nothing about.

thankfully the car was in pretty good shape. previous owner hadn't done much with it aside from replacing the hood and fender most likely due to a low speed fender bender. very light wrinkle where the headlight goes but that's it. the dummy changed out the bumper too and all his parts came from a non gt so there went the original bumper with lip dang!!

i handed him the money and away we went 4 hours back home for one late night. turns out the clutch spun like crazy during any boost and a headlight was out. i got pulled over twice on the way home. to explain about the burned out headlight and lack of registration i told my story to the officer about driving all the way up there to buy this car. he looked at the car and laughed while asking me so this your dream car huh? i tried to explain to him that these are rare and kind of special. i dont think he got it lol but we made it home.

Anyhow enough of the purchase story. i live in astoria OR and have always like cars and motorcycles. i had a 91 talon tsi before i knew anything about turbos and then went on to own two 240sx's. i also am a fan of autocrossing and hope to get this car in shape for that this summer.

i haven't done much with cars in a long time but im really excited to own this car and plan to keep it a while for once.
im slowly collecting knowledge about these car from this awesome forum. i really like how this forum is small and really only contains true enthusiast its a real break from other forums ive read from. great humor here too!!
i hope to meet a couple of the guys from seattle to albany someday since there are so few colt fans around.

and now what you all have been waiting for
here are the pics:

Ha autocross not rallycross  its all pavement on parking lots.

im way into the uniqueness of these cars right now
i really couldn't bring myself to tear the car up like that. even after reading about all the awd swap info
i would have a hard time bringing myself to cutting into the car.... all the money and time aside lol.

Albany member here! My brother (Stealthpony) and I would be happy to meet up in the future.

For any forum members curious about where Astoria is, its way up on the coast of Oregon, and it is famous for being the place where Goonies was filmed lol.

Welcome and great story about the purchase and shinanigans that ensued! Almost a dead ringer for how I got mine. You however got a better price!

Consider a post to the VIN Registry? Should see the details listed at the too sticky threads in the main forum sections. <- shameless plug, but that's how we account for each of the ~1500 that exist as original C53a chassis'.

damn the OG pics are gone.
god damn crappy pic hosting sites....... especially imageshack
i cant seem to find these at home either.

i was hoping to just add this intro to my build thread, but its kinda worthless without the pics

i don't know much about tech stuff but whats the deal with not being able to host our own media gallery?

We are working on a setup, but it is behind the scenes that the moment. Essentially, yes. We do want a gallery that can be backed up and linked to and kept alive with minimal effort. Soon ... ish.
