Hello all, my name is Justin, and I am from Atlanta, GA, I work as the head tech at a little performance shop called bATLground Motorsports. Earlier this week, I picked up a 1992 Dodge Colt. The car came with the stock 4g15, just not installed, the previous owner removed it to do a 4g63 swap.

My plans are to reinstall the 4g15, and possibly adding a "budget" turbo kit. By "budget" turbo kit, I mean a lot of old parts that I have laying around. My only problem with that is the old turbo I have is an evo8 16g, and I think it might be too big for the 1.5L. What are your guys thoughts? If I were to use the evo turbo, I have a weaker (7psi) wastegate I would make work.

Aside from that, I got some 2g wheels, as well as the 1g hubs. The 5 lug is going to happen before the car drives. Also, I am going to lower the car before it moves.

It has some exterior damage, mainly the driver rear wheel arch. Other than that, nothing major. I am looking for a few things: tailights, passenger mirror, and driver rear wheel arch.

The interior looks like crap. I need a dash pad, as well as some other little things. The front seats will be replaced with Bride replica's (we sell a bunch on ebay, and the quality is great for a replica), and the doors panels, and some other parts will get freshened up.

After my other project gets finished, awd built 6bolt is the plan for the colt.

I will post a link to my toy, the colt is the DD. The toy is a 2001 Lexus IS300 that is being turned into a race car. And for power, 4g63 hehe. http://my.is/forums/f219/build-2-3-turb ... -a-413032/

I hope you're turboing the 4g15 just to be different because it won't even be as fast as a n/a 4g63 swap. Looking at a boost from 92hp stock to something like 120-130 if you're lucky and don't shatter a piston. Either way, welcome to 61t! You'll find pretty much everything there is to know about the 3rd gen csm here.

Slowdsm- thanks for the tip, fortunatly I am picking up tires for the 16's today. I will do the 5 lug before I lower it.

Mechacode- I am thinking about turboing the 4g15 because I have all the parts at the shop minus turbo flanges, and oil lines. If the engine blows, I will just 4g63 swap it at that time. If it lasts, I will just rock the 150whp ;)

Thank you guys for the warm welcome

150 is a pipe dream and there are many reasons why noone bothers to turbo a 4g15 but good luck, it's always interesting to see new projects.

I have a super clean shell that I am parting. My brother has a plasma cutter so I can cut off whatever you need from the rear quarter panel.

Oh yeah, welcome to the site!

Let me know how much for that rear quarter shipped to 30080, also do you have a dash pad still?

Do you want the entire quarter, just a section or what? Say $50 + whatever actual shipping costs. I no longer have the dash pad. Mint ones are next to impossible to find.

I would judt want that damaged section if I get it. First I want to check to local junk yards for a csm. As far as the dash, I would even take a cracked one. The previous owner said the dash was cracked, so he started removing it. It looks like he removed the pad with a shovel. Lol

I removed the interior to fully clean the car. The carpet is moist, and smells. After some deep cleaning, it should not smell :) Also, I am just going to install the sparco I have for the lex, since my driver's seat expires at the end of this year. Sorry for the sideways pic.

Now to the turbo stuff. I called a friend looking for a dash, to find out he has no dash, but a 4g61t for a good price. At this point I decided against replacing 4g15 headgaskets often, and gave up on that idea. If I pick up his engine, I will have to run my evo 8 turbo since his does not have a turbo. My question is not about the turbo setup, but will the stock 4 speed work behind the 4g61? I imagine that they are weak, but how weak? Just debating if I should consider this since the engine is currently removed from the car. If I have to source a 1g fwd gearbox immediatly, I will hold off on the swap for a little while. But if I can baby it with the 4 speed, then I will most likely do the turbo swap now ;)

If you were extremely lucky and found a clutch that could hold the power, the 4g15 trans won't hold up for very long as it was designed to work with about 90hp running through it. Also, by being a 4spd, it's most likely a cable clutch so that means you'll need to swap over to a hydraulic setup if you want to run a dsm trans.

Decided to rock the stock 4g15. So thoughts of turbo are out the window for a little bit. Going to start collecting everything for a 4g61 or 4g63 swap on the side, and once everything is collected the swap will begin. The car is not running yet, need a new ecu, lol. So I started on the 5 lug swap. I started with 1g dsm hubs, then the tie rod mount was flipped and welded back together. Here is a pic of the jig I made to keep the alignment correct when starting to weld.

I finished welding the hubs. I then realized that the brake calipers that the previous owner gave me were for the colt, not the eclipse rotors that he gave me. I came up with a clever solution. BBK. I had some wilwoods that I bought for the Lexus, then realized they were a bit small for the car. Instead of selling them, I am just putting them on the colt. I will be using my IS300 rotors since they are larger than the eclipse ones, as well as making brackets for the calipers.

Another question: do people upgrade the master cyl. when upgrading the front brakes? I know it is needed for the rears, but how about the fronts?

Anyways, here are the pics.

This thing is very close to me actually driving it for the first time. A little more than a week later than the largest car meet in atlanta (import alliance). Oh well, now on to the progress pics.

Made the brake caliper brackets

And the hub with new brakes

And the wheel installed

I think I need tires with a smaller sidewall, these are super tall.

I will take more pics once I give her a bath.

Not sure what you're looking to spend on tires but I have a brand new set of kumhos that I bought for my 16" 3000GT wheels. I'll take $200 + shipping, think I paid around $300 for them. Pics are in my build thread towards the end. Might be up for some trades too.
