fruit and banana SAKES

there's a fist sized hole in the back of the block now, somehow hydro-locked the motor in the rain while riding over a shallow puddle.

there isn't a font size large enough to actually convey how pissed off i am right now.

tore down a 4G63NA today, came from a running car, and seems healthy for having sat as long as it had. going to borrow an engine lift and get the damn thing in the car ASAP.

no more fruit and banana around with swapping another 4G15 into the sedan, i'm just going to go full swap and see how it comes out on the other side.

wish me luck.

Good luck man.

Sorry about the misfortune. On the other hand, the car is looking good. Post up any progress pics!

Sorry to see that the 4G15 let go. Toss that 4G63 in and don't look back. Just don't take as long to do it as I have.

I am excited to hear your first impressions after driving it with the new swap. My sedan will be a 4g63n/t for about a year while I focus on suspension and body stuff.

This thing is looking better and better. I love the JDM front bumper and the mullet. Sorry to hear about the engine though. That's a bummer. But at least it lit a fire under your ass to swap the 63 into it.

got the timing belt tensioner replaced today, did the timing belt, replaced all the bolts holding the lower timing cover on, got the mounts off, and dug out the ones i got from 89mirageman oh so long ago. also cleaned up the valve cover, painted it, and polished the lettering on it :p i know, not required, but i figured it should at least look HALF decent going in.

i'll try to steal my roommates camera tomorrow and snap some pics of the motor before it goes in.

learning new things:

1.6L sedans have FOUR plugs on the dash harness to engine harness
1.5L sedans have THREE plugs on the dash harness to engine harness

hence, a 1.6L sedan wiring harness IS NOT a plug and play swap solution :| unfortunately

time to dive into the electrical manual i guess.....

That extra plug is probably for cruise, power windows and the p,n,r,d1,d2 lights.

i certainly hope so...
i've at least learned that the 4th plug is apparently the O2 sensor test plug, so no worries there.
two of the plugs are the same and go together perfectly, but the 3rd is very different in size like this:
Image
the yellow circle is the 02 test plug, and the blue are the 2 plugs that don't go together.

i'm just going to drop the motor in and see if it'll start with that unplugged.....

ok, so here's some pictures(and a video) of the swap in progress. i suck at remembering to take pictures, so there really aren't very many, heh.

the new engine:
Image
i painted the intake and valve cover, sanded and polished the letters and then threw some clear on it to make sure it didn't corrode.
the spark plug cover i'm proud of, in a retarded way. i couldn't find the one that came with the engine, so i made a template out of cardboard, and then cut that out of a rusted piece of sheetmetal with a pair of tinsnips :p
my roommate thought it looked too plain though, so i threw that sticker on it, and laid some clearcoat on it to make sure it would stick. i'll write something dumb on it once the motor is in.

the garage where i'm working, all packed up after wrapping things up the night before.
Image

and here's the dead motor, my freshly hydrolocked 4G15 :S
Image

didn't see the hole on the front till i had the engine out, but i guess i really did a number on this poor thing.
Image

my newly empty engine bay.
Image

and THIS. i found this buried under the heater core, how it got there, i do not know..... but i'm puttin it back when i reassemble everything :p
Image

so far the swap has cost me 23$, and that was for a replacement MPI relay since i didn't have one that would fit the 1.6 harness, and to have the studs replaced on the exhaust manifold. other than that, everything is stuff that i bought ages ago, or just happened to have on hand, like the paint, and things like that.

almost forgot the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFLy4FyYt4M
had to get the engine there somehow :p

Engine is in the car, won't start though.

no fuel, and no spark. have to replace the MPI relay with one of my spares, see if i can get fuel running, but the no spark part....that's a problem.

mostly because the wiring that i need to plug into the two devices(which from what i can discern, have something to do with spark) just on the back of the motor behind the cam gears, seems to be cut off the harness i have :\ and my only spare harness is from a later talon, so it's all different...

at least the damn thing is in the car now, that's a start, right?
