I actually picked this up in February of 18 but I've been a real slacker in starting a build thread. Good news is I've actually done a ton of work on it so far. You might remember that I also had a 94 coupe but I ended up parting it. We built a carport onto our house and it was in the way. So I tossed some wheels on the back and welded a tongue on the core support (entire front subframe had been removed) and moved it to the back of our property. So when this 95 popped up about 25 miles away, even though it was beat, I decided to go take a look at it. It was a running, driving 1.5 manual and they were only asking $400.


So I get there and it's worse than the pics, a lot worse lol. I really should have passed but it actually drove fine. I had a DOHC 4G64 at home that I built for the 94, plus the 94 parts car. Was it not for this I would have passed on it for sure. But hey, I needed something to tinker on and this was perfect. I offered $250 and they tried for more but I stood firm and they accepted.


But backing up a little. I had purchased a 98 DE sedan from my neighbor across the street for $350. That was going to be my Evo 4 clone that I was itching to build. It was running very rough. My daughter was still living here at the time and owned a 98 DE too. So after some searching the problem pointed to the distributor. Sure enough I borrowed the good one and tossed it on and it ran PERFECT! So off to the yard I went to find me a good distributor and I also scored a tubular exhaust manifold since my cast one was cracked. So for around $400 I had a perfect running 5g. I drove it for a few months but just couldn't tear a perfectly good running car apart. Plus Evo 4 panels were A LOT more expensive than I thought. It was around this time the 4g popped up for sale so I jumped on it and sold the 5g for $1250.


OK for those that haven't seen it on FB, brace yourselves. This thing was beat for sure. 246k of hard miles and neglect on this poor car. The day I brought it home:

I told you it was bad, now do you believe me? But surprisingly from the back view it still resembled a summit.

I noticed the passenger's side door looked a little funny, it had been replaced and didn't fit well. I figured a minor adjustment was all that was needed. Wrong! The quarter panel had actually been pushed in slightly.


For a few days I had thought about just taking my brother's plasma cutter to it and making a $250 go cart. But I installed my good door from my parts car and decided to try to pull the quarter using the ol' big tree and come along method. My tree of choice was this huge pecan in my back yard. pronounced pee-can just like it reads, not pee-con lol.


So I pull a little from the latch in the door jamb and it moves but I need to pull from a little higher up. So I remove the interior plastic and drill a 3/8" hole right through the jamb and install a long eye bolt. Don't judge me, it's a $250 car for Christ sakes. Well after cranking down on the come along thinking if this lets go I'm crippled for life it starts to move. I was happy with the fitment so I just popped a rubber plug in the hole for now. I'll patch it later.

Ooh look, a 4g sedan headlight and corner light on a coupe. Also notice my 5g under the carport and our 6g in the driveway. And a newer Outlander that happened to be going by at the time. All that Mitsubishi love in one pic.

But I have to keep reminding myself it's a running and driving car for $250 and far from perfect.


So after a long search for a 4g hood, which were EVERYWHERE back when I didn't need one. A new 4g coupe came in after a few months and it was salvageable.

It was fun trying to get it into my 5g along with my push cart and tools but here it goes.

After I installed my doors and fender off the donor, and the junkyard hood and D/S fender it was starting to shape up.

I started pulling dents out working the quarter back into place.

Ground it all down using a 36 grit disc and pulled a light coat of filler over it to get it all smooth again. I'll stop for now to let you all catch up but I have a lot more pics of the progress that I'll upload a little later.
