Time for an update. Bellow is a list of what I've done. I'm really stoked because I just now got the cruise control working. The path was arduous (map out and understand 26 conductors into/out of the controller), but the solution was quite simple (cut three wires). Recall, I swapped the automatic transmission for a manual, so the wiring is different.
COMPLETED:
ENGINE
replace timing belt
replace tensioner
replace idler pulley
replace tensioner pulley
replace balance shaft belt
replace balance shaft belt tensioner pulley
replace water pump
replace cam seal
replace spark plugs
STEERING/SUSPENSION
have new tires installed
replace ball joints
replace sway bar end links
replace swaybar bushings with polyurethane
install camber bolts
replace tie rod ends
replace inner tie rods
replace tie rod boots
seal rack
align front end
install wheel spacers
center the sway bar
TRASMISSION SWAP
install transmission
get cruise control working
install braided ss clutch line
install mounting bracket to transmission
fabricate shifter base
adjust shifter/shifting
