Back on the ground and accumulating miles. It is super hairy on 255 street tires and I am not even getting into boost yet  I likely will need to switch to a stock rear shock/spring to get some weight transfer back for track time.

She has a significant coolant leak at the water pump to heater hose connection. Have anyone even converted that the a threaded barb?

So I removed the pass side manifold to work on the coolant leak. Tapped the Water pump, and somehow lost my tube of Hondabond. Figured "high tack gaskets sealant would do the trick. NOPE! Freaking thing still leaked! Went and bought more gasket maker and gooped it on. All is well again!

Took her for another drive and notice after some spirited turns a small of oil. Pull over to see what looks to be a trans leak. WTF? Get under it to discover that I forgot to address my lack of speed sensor issue! Oye. Made a block off plate for now.

Had some time tonight to do some further tidying up-extended and consolidate some wires in the harness, adjusted the clutch, reinstalled as much interior bits as I could find (car came with a few boxes of random BS) and got the interior/exterior lights working. I may have a dead headlight motor, will have to deal with that later. Got the rear glass to open consistently-and a few other odds and ends on the list of things to do. The car actually seems mildly presentable at the moment-which makes me happy. I plan to drive the car to the office on Friday, and on a longish 30 mile trip afterwords. If all goes well-fuel, intercooling, and dyno time will be next on the list.

I had a goal; Drive it to the office 9/26. Goal achieved!!

The stuck caliper has seemed to unstick itself, and all coolant leaks are gone (for now). My "new" alternator took a dump on the way to a big meet in Mexico Saturday. Lucky one of the 300+people there had a spare off a 5.3 and lived close by. Swapped it in 20 minutes, and I was ready to go!

Clutch is not bad now that I am used to it. Its about time to commit to an intercooler and fuel, and turn this ol' girl up. Considering I am 10.5 to one, I am heavily considering e85, but that will inflate the cost of this super budget build. I am around $4100 as she sits today. Goal was to see 700+whp for $5k total investment, and then do what i need to do to go for the record. Its going to be close!

This is awesome if not somewhat unbelievable given the budget. I have no clue how a lsx swap can be cheap. I am curious what record you are going for. Fastest under 5000? Surely this 3000 pound tank cant compete with THE COLT

it should be faster than the colt. Budget-I got lucky with finding an incomplete project car with all the right parts, just in a lot of boxes LOL. Retail of all this junk would be 10-12k, but really its no different in the DSM world. Always buy used!

Goals? 840 whp (current stock LS! record is 839whp)

When/If I do that-shoot for 1000+whp on a 6.0 or 6.2 truck motor.

In between that- 9's@anything on street tires

200+ in the standing mile.

I'm about to pick up a 5.3 with everything on it for $500. Could get another one with trans for 800. If I was going to drop it into my rx7, I could buy the install kit for about 500. The 5.3's are stupid cheap and stupid easy to make power on. Local guy has a bone stock 140k 5.3 with a carb conversion and a cam ($250), after 13 dyno runs, he's at 460hp at the wheels. Figure +20hp if it was still on EFI.

Yeah, I find that hard to believe. Those things only make ~300hp at the crank stock.

Start out with a LH6 making 320 and slap a 290 cam with over 600 lift into it and you'll get some nice numbers.

Well where should i start... we had issues this morning with the motor not loading up anyways we hit it hard this afternoon with my carb. I ended up after lots of trial and error ( for some reason the motor didnt like a 4 hole spacer and #7 sparkplug wire didnt like its plug we were finally able to make my carb not go lean. We think we found the peak of the cam but gary didn't want to pull past 7k. So here goes.. with my carb (holley 700 dp with some kind of hp center) i hit max torque of 367@5800 rpm i hit 455hp @6800. At 6900 it was 452.

After all is said and done we thrashed the motor 15ish times. Oil was dark, this was its break in lol all the bearings were new. I am very pleased at this time. what else can i say its only a cam swap 5.3.

10:1 factory compression+huge cam+a lot of dyno time=numbers. Keep in mind that the carb conversion uses an intake that's damn near a tunnel ram.

Yeah, but carbs work by black magic and sorcery. Is it running E85, or something?

Nah, 91octane. I hardly believe it either.

I snagged this today.

Waiting on a 45 Deg 3 inch couplers for better fitment with my random radiator. (Hinson that came with the car is sold) and with the funds from the Hinson Radiator-it should cover the cost of the IC/Plumbing/used 80 lbs injectors. Free upgrades FTW :)

Wont have time till hopefully Sunday to try and put it all together.

So, been busy with work/travel. Finally found time to finish up the IC set up, just in time for the snow LOL.

It came out even better than expected. The intercooler although universal, basically bolted right up using the OE bumper supports! Size and spacing were absolutely perfect. I used scrap piped for the hot and cold side. Waiting on the BOV, but besides that, dump tubes, and better clamps-we are injectors away from glory pulls.

I used a radiator I had laying around I picked form the junkyard out of a Audi 200 turbo that looked new(er) and a set of cooling fans from the same junk yard run. The rad is 1/2 the thickness of the Hinson that came with the car, but it has done well thus far.

I sold the Hinson for $400, so considering the cost of the IC, I actually profited $200 by installing the IC. :) Showing was done with scraps and aluminum duct foil tape.

Well she officially has her sea legs. Put another 100 or so mile son it the last nice week we had up here-clutch is a pain in the ass but everything works well now. Hood is on with the new IC set up. I picked up injectors and a 4 bar map for dirt. Working on mult-used 255 set up this weekend if time permits. Then, off to the dyno for some boosted baseline runs.
