I have been with DSM's since 2003, my first DSM was a 1990 panda white Eclipse GST, as time passes and life change I had to sell it then I had other cars but none like that GST, by experiences in racing and personal preference I became fan of the FWD platform you know less weight + more power = more miles (and more wheel spin YES I know that part), anyway I started to be seduced by the CSM platform when I found a pic of a Mirage 4g63 swapped back on 2005.
I had a couple AWD DSM and I don't have nothing against them, I know traction is traction and AWD is the most preferred for this platform but I guess I like the hard way and I really like when sometimes a FWD can make a difference in roll racing or even drag, right now I have a 95' Tsi with 6bolt/2g head, t28@15 psi, bolt on upgrades and tricks lol It runs high 13s, well that's a little story of my life with the DSMs, this is my first CSM and here we go...

Few months ago I was looking for a clean CSM, you know with the exterior in good condition to make their respective swap, I had some options locally, but everything changed when this YELLOW hatch appeared in craigslist, 1991 Dodge Colt with 137k in running condition for $900
Image
I called them and they told me that someone was interested in buy it, my first thought was "Damn! he will sell it", hours later he called me back, the Colt was still available!!! The next day I went to see it and it really was what I wanted

Before driving home I went straight to the emission test thinking maybe it will pass, and it passed with flying records...

As you can see the clear coat was faded

After hand polish

I was surprised how the paint came back to life
Image
Image
Just when I try that shinny oil cap I decided to clean the engine bay
Image
Image
I bought some 14" wheels but when I was trying to measure them, I noticed about the weak brake system setup and that won't let me put the wheels
Image
bye bye dumb brakes
Image
I did a research about which brakes would work and I decided to go with a complete setup of a 1994 Vista AWD, here is me cleaning them

paint job on the caliper/bracket
Image
I ended buying new rotors and pads

Here is how it looks right now

I was looking for a swap donor car and found this 1990 GST with "broken timing belt"
Image
The car end up having the worst scene, having most of the valves bent, bad block and bad turbo
Image
Image
Image
I removed everything that i could from inside and outside
Image
Image
bye bye shell

The engine
Image
Some specs:
*6 bolt GVR4 block
*.020 1g pistons
*STD crank
*1994 Galant GS intake manifold with 91-94 turbo tb, looks pretty much like 2g's but a little bit shorter, very minimal difference, not like evo III but its something i guess, the tb bore its 60mm ready on those manifolds
*95-98 Hyundai Sonata cylinder head, i found that has the intake ports pretty much like 2g but in a 1g head shape with 6 bolt head bolts holes ready (2g top, hyundai bottom)
Image
(hyundai left, 2g right)
Image
*MLS head gasket
*Sealed power rod, balance and main bearings
*Hastings .020 rings
*Felpro seals and head bolts
*Gates timing kit with pulleys
*I may go with a small 16g turbo, but not decided yet...

Some pics of the building process

Image
The 90' coils were modified to make them fit in the manifold with tach filter as well
Image
Image
97-99 connectors for the fuel injectors
Image
In the pictures you can see a 90' turbo tb, but im going with the 91-94, the 90' do not cover pretty well in the lower part with a 2g manifold or the 94' Galant GS...

Right now i'm kinda tight on my garage space, but i may be starting the swap process on the next weeks...

Great progress so far and welcome to the csm community! I don't know personally if I love or hate that color, but its certainly rare.

Did you put the complete spindles on or just the brakes them selves?

Ahh, gotcha. I was going to say, those spindles tear your camber up bad. Could you take a pic of the modified hole?

Very nice looking, I think you have a good Yemita from a good Huevito, yellow is one of my favorite colors.

Well i got my hatch sucessfully swaped like 2 weeks ago, i been trying to fix details like exhaust, cosmetics and stuff like that, but right now thanks to this forum and my 2 helpers (Wife and friend) its pretty much complete, it took me pretty much 4 days to take the old 4g15 and swaped and ear the 4g63 running in my Yemita, here is some pics

Image
Image
On the DSM transmission i just bent the shifter to make it look like the CSM one, has been working fine i guess
Image
Here is the rear mount bracket of the 4g15, i just add 3 head bolt washers to make it fit in the 4g63 block
Image
This is what I did to make the 4g15 transmission mount bracket work on the DSM transmission

4g15 wiring arness off

90' 4g63 wiring arness in

I was the one you raced on Federal tonight. In the black Talon. My little 14b street car. Glad to see the car on the road. Anymore details of what all you have done to the car?

We all know the CSM breed run rampant in CO  but still, the chances are pretty dang slim.
