Well, my first original turbo can has been sitting in my parents garage collecting dust for nearly 7 years, and I couldn't take it anymore, so I went about putting her to rights! Started off with a drivetrain-less shell, now it's a fully running auto-mobile! I ended up doing some strange things for this build as you will see in the pics... It's equipped with a 4g61t, overhauled everything that should be (no cutting the crank, ppl) and a 91 DSM tranny, with some massaging, and some goodies. The "list:" 61T block, overbored to 84mm Arias integra type R 12.2:1 84mm pistons (shelf pistons) stock rods, machined to full floating pins, NO BUSHINGSSSS! cometic 85mm MLS head gasket 1.6L small port head, new bronze exh guides, radiused valve job, no porting stock 61t cams "Mangledfold" intake manifold, 61t flange + honda B16a mani + weldage... 2g exh mani 14b 450cc 1g maf (for now, will be going speed density) 2.5" flux core welded exhaust, with a cherry at the end 91 F5M33, replaced the 1-2 slider, 1st and 2nd synchros, and massages the dog teeth back to sharp fitted an unknown clutch pack LSD front diff from an AWD.... comp clutch ironman, 4th car it's been on, haha! screw the description, on with the pics! ![]() oiling hole ![]() no bushing!!! ![]() ![]() DUOMO ![]() ![]() note the piston height difference ![]() narrowed the pin end to fit pistons ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() pistons sit 2.5mm below deck ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Note the outer race height vs the axle input... the FWD use taper roller bearings that are flush, thussssss..... ![]() Spacing the narrower AWD roller bearings ![]() SOOO MANY SHIMS ![]() sharpened slider teef ![]() ![]() note the heat spots on the 2nd gear synchro cone, the stock ones were the crappy nylon-faced ones, so I swapped with a set of KM210 ones. 210's were shorter, and may have had a steeper slope so it was a gamble. SUCCESS ![]() ![]() No cherry picker, used 3 floor jacks to put her in, left the head off, so it would fit under chassis... ![]() Cometic with copper gasket spray ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Gansta lean, whoops, wrong tranny mount, don't even know where it came from ![]() ![]() FIXED coil pack and transistor ![]() ![]() 2G injector plugs ![]() reroute wiring harness ![]() down the hatch ![]() 90 JDM TB, note the gasket shape, the TB flange i had welded on the intake mani didn't have this shape, and needed it to stop a massive vac leak ![]() aluminium sammich plate ![]() This little gem is from a DOHC neon engine, this one was from an srt-4. exact same size, no rubber to shrink and get rock hard ![]() TURBO: doing it wrong ![]() loooooooong pipe, turbo to over axle. theres now a cat in there, and it's flanged ![]() $16! sweet cherry (bomb) pie! The tip is from a chevy SSR ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() fitment ![]() ![]() ![]() charge piping.... ![]() old IC, converted it to a heat exchanger for an old air/water setup, then converted BACK to air/air... ![]() honda battery, pink filter of doom ![]() cheers ![]() Phil |

Why did you end up using such high compression pistons? I don't see you being able to push much boost on stock rods. |

with the low compression hight of the pistons, it works out to be a comfortable 8.5:1. bonus, they were free, with a used sleeved type R block i bought. |

stock, it was cut for a larger intercooler in a previous incarnation of this colt. I was thinking of doing the Infinity Q20 bumper later on... |

i get that but it could be a b16 or b18 with like 4 different lengths of stroke. |

B18 uses 84mm pistons. I've built many of them. No VTEC motors though. I built B18A2s for my old DA Integra. They all ran 84mm. I believe the B16s were 80mm. |

Why are you using honda intake manifold ? Is it to match with the pistons ? |

i used the honda intake manifold, well, because. No real reason, maybe for the shorter runner length. tech note: All b16's, b17's, and b18 variants had a stock 81mm bore, with slightly differing compression heights (all around 30mm). The 84mm bore is factory bore of a B20 from a honda CRV. Sleeving the former blocks can be done to achieve the ability to use 84mm pistons. Also, the 12.2:1 comp ratio pistons were calculated based on the type-ARRRGH stroke, combustion chamber volume and rod length. Since the B's share a nearly identical compression height, these pistons could be used in all other B's with differing comp ratio's. |

Congratulations on your build. If I had the option, I would have gotten pistons with a 32.5mm compression height, the same as stock. This way would yield a better off-boost response and better fuel economy. 10.6:1 comp with 32.5mm compression height, instead of 8.4:1 as is. maybe cut the block deck 2.5mm.... is there enough material to cut off? Hmmmmm... |
