More stuff done, though it doesn't look like much. I got the end caps pretty much done on both sides, only thing left to do are the bottom welds and then clean them up a little.

And that's where we are at for tonight. It's surprising how much time you have to spend measuring, cutting and tweaking each piece to weld in. I'm going to do my best to have the rearend mounted in before the end of weekend. We will see.

Rear section is all welded in now. I got the subframe mounted in to check everything out and start with the front mounting points. I'm very happy with where the wheels are sitting and how it fits.

Is it just me, drivers rear tire appears to be a shorter gap to the fender in front of it. With an exact point, matched on both sides, do they line up perfectly front to back as the same dimensions? This I am sure you have been trying to perfect the entire time you setup the rear end, just felt like asking your process. This sort of stuff is always neat to hear about.

Good eye! Yes it looks like it is closer but that is because the tire rubbed on the wheel well lip and pulled it out so it looks like the gap is closer but I made sure to measure everything multiple times before tacking and then remeasured before welding everything in for good.

Small update, had drill over the weekend so no work on the project. I got the front mounting points half welded in today. I'll get it finished up and some pictures up tomorrow most likely.

Rear subframe mounts are done finally. That is easily the most stressful part of the awd swap. :axe:

Stuff left to fabricate-
*Driveshaft mounts
*rear strut mounts/wheel wells
*front and rear motor mounts

Gotta get the awd transmission and transfer case in and then start on the driveshaft mounts. Slowly but surely this thing is coming back together.

This thing is moving right along, I agree on the rear subframe mounts.

I don't travel.

Little more to update, busy day. Got the motor and transmission out of the talon, and everything apart. The motor and trans in the mirage are pretty much ready to be dropped out, just have to get the axle nuts off. PITA... Doesn't seem like I got much done today but o well.

My driveway is looking like a dsm/csm graveyard.

Poly mounts all installed

More stuff done over this weekend. I got the flywheel and starter plate swapped over and the awd transmission bolted on and then back into the engine bay.
Image

Made a new discovery today, a 90 awd transmission requires some modification to work with the mirage mounts. I had to remove a decent size piece of aluminum from the case. I'm not even sure why the case is made this way, 91-94 don't have this problem. But I got it to work.

I also modified the transmission shift arms so I can use the stock shifter and cables. The mirage trans and 90 awd trans have essentially the same arms but are just stamped differently. So I just heat up and bent the arm into the correct shape.

Image

I also spaced the bracket out about an inch to get the cables aligned well.

I'm thinking about doing the front mount like this. Just extending the front metal mount and mounting the front poly mount to the radiator support. Any input on that idea? I can't think of any real draw backs but maybe someone else can.

Moved to the back and started in on the driveshaft carrier bearing mounts.

Started out by drilling out the spot welds on the stock talon pieces. I got the driveshaft's front shaft removed from the back 2 and started mocking it up. Did a little cutting and bending and smacking with a BFH and got it fitting really nice. I wish I would have done it this way the first time with my swap.

Not sure why my phone is making the pictures come out so bright. I have it about halfway welded in. I just need to mock up a couple pieces to finish it off.

Are you using a 110 welder with flux core wire? I'm not poking fun, just looking out for your safety
