Money has been tight so I decided to just make the 20G work and sell the 3071 (still available). I had to make a new wastegate actuator mount. The actuator head is 1/8" away from the fan and about 1/4" away from the manifold heat shield. I've been chasing a few fuel gremlins but I just got them worked out in the last few days. I have been tuning it with the AFC @ 20 psi and 91 pump gas. My target A/F's are right around 10:1 just because it has been so hot. I need to borrow Gimmie11's pocketlogger just to see where the timing and fuel trims are.
You can tune it a lot leaner than that. I'm currently running ~21psi on 91 octane with my setup (FP3065 turbo). 1,000cc injectors with a Walbro 450 pump and upgraded feed lines. I'm at about 80% injector duty cycle and my AFR's are around 11.7:1. I have no knock control, and no EGT gauge. I'm running around 16 degrees of timing. So far nothing has broken, and I rape the car every time I drive it. It trapped almost 97mph in the 1/8th with this tune. Of course, I'm not tuning on the stock ECU anymore, this is on a Megasquirt standalone. Maybe you don't want to try going as lean as I am, but you can definitely go leaner and not break anything. 11:1 should be totally fine at WOT.

97 in the 1/8th is cooking for sure. That damn thing will probably run 125+ out the back door. I don't really plan to drag my car but I'd like to know if it would trap 120+ on pump gas. Our Camaro runs 113-115 so it'll be interesting to see the comparison.

Considering the car was scary lean just a week ago I am just playing it overly cautious until I get the logger connected. I am more than curious to see both timing and knock counts. I think I will eventually shoot for 11-11.5:1 on 91. Once that is dialed in I'll start playing with E85 again.

I wish I could run mine in the 1/4 to find out what it would do on the long end. I'm planning to make a trip up to Bakersfield once the weather cools off more. You should do it too. Getting 120+ traps in these cars is pretty darn easy compared to an AWD DSM.

How much compression are you running?

I cant get even close to 11:1 let alone 11:7 and this car knocks and pulls timing like crazy

I will be at Famoso on September 13th, 14th & 15th but I will be working not playing. The track prep and conditions will be off the hook Friday night. If you go that weekend I can capture a shit ton of HD media of your car.

If you can be patient and wait for the NMCA race next year. The Real Street category would be a bunch of fun. 30 Mile street drive followed by 3 back to back track passes (at Pomona). Let's just hope they don't schedule if for June/July again.

8.5:1 CR

Keep in mind, I'm on a standalone with no knock control. The factory ECU is probably going to want to knock like crazy if you try to tune it real aggressively. In my opinion, knock sensors are more of a pain than they are good.

Nice! That's something to keep in mind. I don't know if the weather will be cool enough by then...

Crazy, I get rich knock if I'm anywhere in the 10s, the car likes to be 11.5-.7 on 92, timing 18ish up top. 7.8:1

We were just there two weeks ago and it was 100+ during the day but was low 80's during the night sessions. There were two records set that night in two different classes because the track was so good.

We haven't plugged in the logger yet so I could be rich knocking also.

Low 80's is acceptable. I'll talk to the rest of my buddies about it and see if we can't plan to go up there that weekend.

It's been a few weeks since an update. Long story short I spun a rod bearing in the Colt. After searching for a short or longblock for weeks I finally gave up and just picked up a complete running car for about the same price as some of the engines have been selling for.

'90 Eagle Talon FWD - It is in really nice shape mechanically and has a pretty stellar mods list. Body is in good shape but the paint is pretty badly faded.

Mods that I can confirm visually.
16G
FIC Injectors (not sure of the size)
DSMLINK V3 Lite
3" exhaust with 3" cat (unknown brand)
FMIC with 3.5" core (short route piping)
2G MAF/Dejon Tool intake pipe
Unknown boost controller
It definitely has an aftermarket clutch in it just based on feel
Fuel pump has been hardwired
AEM A/F gauge (wired into Link)
Autometer boost gauge
Blitz turbo timer
short shifter (unknown brand)
Slimline fan for the A/C
Drilled/Slotted rotors

Image

This car drives so damn nice and with the taller tires it isn't spinning 4K rpm at 75 mph like the Colt. I am half tempted to swap the 20G and 272's from the Colt over to the Talon and just keep it instead. Although, the thought of having Link on the Colt sounds real nice too. I am also half tempted to swap the 5 lug over the Colt if I end up keeping it.

My colt and talon share the same ecu lol I am getting rid of the afc in the colt and using link. The talon doesn't get driven must so I am not sharing 2 linked ecu with 4 cars lol

I am curious as to how the rod bearing spun. I know it's a long story but I would like to learn from it.

When the problem actually occurred I was just driving along on the highway in 5th gear doing 70 mph. I can't imagine I overreved it. I haven't spun it over 7K. I was logging A/F on the Zietronix the morning it happened and spun it to 6925 (according to the log). I very rarely take it past 6500 because it just isn't making power up top. Just given the close proximity of taking it that high has me wondering.

I had fuel delivery issues so maybe just maybe it had detonated to the point of damaging the bearing.

I am going to try and get the engine out in the next day or two so I can start tearing it down.
