My other $500 CL score this month. Poor 17 year-old kid had it posted up claiming it needed a clutch... Upon further investigation I found it needed clutch FLUID and 4 quarts of oil. He must have ran it low on oil for sometime as the poor 'ol 14b is toast, as in not-rebuildable toast. The lack of oil worries me but I did drive it over 30 miles home with not a single sound to be heard from the engine bay. It starts immediately, even in 25 degree weather, idles smoothly and makes neither valvetrain nor rotating assembly sounds. Maybe come spring I will do a BS delete and some bearings, but for now I just want to drive this thing. Currently rebuilding a sleeper 16g with a 19c compressor wheel and full port work everywhere, even larger wastegate opening with complementary flapper done myself. Body work is a definite and new suspension components, seats and other upgrades will likely happen in time. I just can't help myself...

Awesome find!

Wish i could find deals like that around here. Dsms dont seem to pop up often and if they do, they're usually missing a motor or other vital parts and the seller wants WAY too much.

Thanks guys. Ordered the full complement of these sweet gaskets to go on with the new turbo and manifold....

I am currently using them on my GVR4 and can attest to the fact they seal even with missing fasteners.

So the turbine shaft I was planning to use to rebuild this hybrid 16g is bent. Change of plans.... Went to my parts shelf and pulled of a "gently" (as in 25psi through 3" charge pipes and a 4" GReddy FMIC) used 14b that took the black AWD Colt GT I had to 13.10s... Has some up-down and very little in-out and didn't smoke so on the Laser it goes with a ported 2g exhaust manifold, ported 16g 7cm turbine housing and stainless tubular O2 housing with wastegate dump. I really didn't want to modify the fuel system just yet so I am happier with this arrangement.

This car had a terribly sloppy shifter. So bad that I questioned whether the odometer had been tampered with because a 86,000 mile car should not have crapped out shifter bushings. Upon inspection of the shifter I discovered that a previous owner had attempted to improve the shifter feel by replacing the nylon bushing with copper pieces. This is a great idea... when the correct bushings are employed. I found copper foil wound around the shafts of the shifter base.... So out with that and in with a modified unit from a '92 Eagle Talon along with a custom(I took a stack of fender washers and welded them together) spacer kit to replace the OE rubber mounts. Shifts like butta.

Nice score! 1g FWD's like this make great daily drivers. I've always kind of wanted one just as a beater car, plus they get awesome gas mileage. I'd love to find a '90 GS-T with the unique front bumper with the lip on it and the black moldings all around. 8)

Oh yeah. I am very excited about this car. It will definitely be modified, but only as parts wear out. Some hand-me-downs from the GVR4 will probably find their way onto this also.

Decided that I hate the way the dump sounds when it opens. Didn't help the car go any faster either. Replaced it with a ported EvoIII16g piece off my shelf. Also cleaned and painted up the OE heat shield with some Rustoleum 1600* grill restore paint, even cured it with a heat gun. Should stay looking good for a bit!

Image

Bought these turkeys off eBay for a whopping $250 with free shipping. I know they are cheapos and won't handle much abuse, but they look far better than the torn-up OE seats. Other pieces in the interior will be modified to complement these seats so they don't look out of place.

These are my 16X7" Konig Britelites with Hankook Ventus C50 AutoX slicks. Definitely will be running this car come spring. FWD DSMs are so much fun in the cones.

Lastly, this is how we have to do it in the MidWest sometimes. At least it wasn't snow... or a tornado...

That's all for now!

Put on some OEM new dual-piston calipers and rotors yesterday with Duralast CMax pads. Also replaced the badly worn tie rod ends. Feels like a different car!
