272's are not an agressive enough cam to be the sole cause of difficult cold starts. You likely have other problems such as incorrect ECT(engine coolant temperature) wiring/signal, fuel pressure, injector settings or physical timing, just to name a few.

When I first installed my 272s the car would not even start, I had to turn the idle up quite a bit and I believe the cams threw off my afrs too. Even my full temp idle afrs are pegged in the lean but I was able to dial the car in everywhere else so I'm not too worried about it atm.

What kind of problem? Slow starting just in cold weather? 272 not that aggressive. I dont think I had any problems with cold starting issues, I used shims that came with them, I just had idling surge. That was because of some boost leaks(fixed now) idles between 750-850 The vaccum is lower, can affect brakes, but thats with any bigger cams since brakes are on vaccum.
A faulty CTS will primarily flood the motor on start-up rather than starve it for fuel. I believe if the communication between the ECU and the sensor is off, the ECU goes into cold mode and dumps fuel like crazy. This will lead to flooded motors and fouled plugs very quickly.

If I had a cold start problem (not on E85) I would check the following..

1. Fuel System- including pressure to rail during cranking, sticky injectors, voltage to the pump ect...

2. Battery voltage- primarily cold cranking amps

3. Spark and Misc components- Coil pack, spark plugs, main relay, ptu, caso ect..

If you crank the motor and get nothing, pull the plugs and look for soaked electrodes and smell for gas. If they are I'd ohm your CTS. Good luck.

272s will need to be dialed in some and tuned. You don't expect stock idle and nice hp gains just by bolting in cams do you?

He is tuning with Link v3. Though, he is running e85 also. So, maybe the issue starts there? Everything else, idle and AFRs are good.

Add some deadtime in the lower voltages (cranking voltage)... also changes to the VE map around ambient pressure and low RPM (500 and below) can really help cold starts on E85. Just another perk to running the corn juice. :partyman:

sorry for the delayed response, been busy like always.

the car has had the FIAV delete.....forgot to mention that. so i think it is the cold weather and the a/f s being off.
I plan to check everything over in link as soon as i get a moment free.

thanks for the suggestions.

thanks for helping out thom! :D

So after I installed my big brake upgrade kit up front (expo knuckles, vr4 rotors, twin pot calipers, s/s brake lines, yoshibab camber plates)......

I took the car out for a test drive. Low and behold, I blew the head gasket in third gear at half throttle.

one of my head studs backed out, that and i used an autozone felpro cheap gasket. LOL

I bought a genuine mitsubishi gasket and made sure everything was tight and right this time around, she is back on the road. 8)
