Howdy everyone! I was here years ago with a car I called the Scummit, a 91 summit 4 door with a 63T swap, and a sonata transmission. It got sold and I played with VWs for a while (my car 'weakness'). I recently impulse purchased a 1989 Colt GT Turbo in need of love, but completely original and unmolested. This is the one: ![]() The old fellow who owned it was a fiend for details, so I have full maintenance records since the car was new (he's the second owner), a tub of spare parts (all itemized), and all the factory repair manuals. It's still a 1.6, with 305km on the clock, and it runs great. Won't pass emissions testing due to a bad cat and leaking everything, and is in need of rocker repair. The good is that the seats are mint, the cluster is still there, and everything works ![]() Now I'm just trying to figure out a way of telling my wife I bought another car... |

I missed that car by days!!!! I went to the house to see it yesterday, but it was gone. Hilarious that it worked out this way. Let me know if you need spare parts! I need your hood and passenger side mirror assembly. ![]() |

It had been up for 15 hours when I saw it. Basically, the gent put it up on Kijiji in the evening, and I saw it in the morning. Called a buddy/fellow colt GTT fiend (TooLowColt of HPAuto.ca in gatineau), he came out at 11 with his trailer, picked me up at work, went to see it and snapped it up immediately. It's far from perfect, but it's been in the same hands for the past 14 years, so it was treated quite well. The only REALLY frustrating issue is that the old fella (in his infinite old guy wisdom) removed the skirts in 07 because they were contributing to the rocker rust...and ditched them. He was an engineer as well, so added a FMIC to the car in a RIDICULOUSLY clean fashion. It looks OEM, but is far from it. It's also at 12psi vs. 8.![]() Right now it's at his place, on the trailer still, until I come back from vacation. I want the wife good and relaxed before I break the news to her. I'm only supposed to have ONE toy, and I'm having a hard time selling my 83 Rabbit (2.0, 8v, turbo, etc). Too attached to it ![]() ![]() If it turns out that I can't stomach getting rid of my Rabbit, and the wife is divorce-ready over the colt...I may have it up for sale if you're interested ![]() |

Long time no update. I had traded the GT to a friend (1lowcolt here on the board/many DSM forums) for a 97 Ford Aspire to use as a daily, and got myself an 87 Volvo 245 Wagon to play with. The wagon is going bye bye and the colt is (possibly) coming home ![]() ![]() |

Dude...be glad you missed this car. I've got a SERIOUS amount of welding ahead of me... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ugh, yes you do. Well, you will now know exactly what is tight and was is not. I've been putting off my rear quarters for far too long, but the rest of the car is not much of an issue. Any other surprises? |

Nothing major, just the driver's rocker (was held together by paint), and the inner fender on the same side. I plan to do some reinforcing while I'm fixing the front end, to stiffen the chassis up a bit. Nothing crazy, just a bit of stitch welding on the visible seams. I really should start a build thread, I'll snap some better pictures this week. Got the engine out tonight, and moved most of the wiring out of the way for some heavy engine bay cleaning/painting. |

Where I'm at today... The bay before: ![]() After ![]() ![]() The pile of parts to go in: ![]() I'm waiting on a die to re-cut the threads of the control arm stubs, but once it shows up I can get the front end back together. I also snagged a BNIB NOS 4G61T upper gasket set on ebay, so I may be doing the valve stem seals before it goes back together. I hope to have the car running again before winter, so I can get it on the road early next year ![]() |

Well, good to know there are some serious link and chip guys in town. I didn't know about HPAuto and the link to Dan until you posted HP Auto and another acquaintance did too on FB. So, would you happen to know Shandon?? The DSM/CSM world is apparently ridiculously small around here. I may need a chip done up for Cyclone switching to match the chip I have now, but I will rack your brain about that privately. Looks like that body work will keep you busy. |

Shanoonoo! Yeah, I know Shandon from his days at HP. He's on my FB too. That nastiness has been fixed, and the front end is solid again. I don't have pics, mainly because it wasn't my best work, lol. Once I can get the front end done and back on the ground, I'm going to start on the driver's rocker and floor. I'll PM you about the chip stuff ![]() |

Few things: 1) Non-picture update, sorry. 2) I broke down and bought Werewolf (DSMap.com) speed density to tune with. I had Jackal already, and all the DSM-ECU.com files to play with, but I get bored quickly, lol. I've been working with hex for years in the VW community, so it's awesome that the DSM stuff is so open ![]() 3) The die to clean the threads of the control arm stubs finally came in. If anyone wants to know, it's M15x1.5. I'll never use this thing again, because M15 is a super odd size, but I'm glad I got it. The threads are so clean ![]() 4) Cleaned and re-greased the starter, completely OCD at this point: ![]() I should have the car back on it's wheels in a few days, and then I'll start on the invisible rocker panel, sigh ![]() |
