Piggyback through a piggyback, what could possibly go wrong?

Well, it's technically not a piggyback, the emulator replaces the chip completely ;).

I get what you're saying though, and I agree. I think I found out what could go wrong, lol.

Setting BISS/ISC. We wondered what the values were. Thread states ISC locks in at 9 steps with pins grounded, turbo's should be 5-15 no loads and at temp 185-202, pins ungrounded. This is assuming no mods and that the ISC can keep up.

What would the EVO8 ECU see?? Or does it all self tune the ISC system?

The evo stuff is a bit different, IIRC. There are a lot more steps in the idle tables, but the end result is the same. I've never really looked into the 'exact' number, especially since I was using it on a 1.6, and not a 2.0. The 63 swap should be closer to the evo stuff.

It's alive again :).
Very stoked, and hopefully it won't die before the emissions testing...again, lol.

A quick, and boring, video of it idling after I finished yesterday. Now, this may not be a significant step to anyone here, but to those folks who live in a northern climate will understand the accomplishment ;).
This is a video of the car idling in -25*C, and the garage isn't insulated, so it was -15*C inside. The 2.0 swap has been done in VERY cold weather, lol.

Another small, but neat (yeah, I use that word, I'm old), update. I'm testing Kaxlon's SwedeDensity SD software, and the car fired right up with a coolant temp of 4*C. It's a complete redesign of the current SD stuff, and removes ALL the MAF-based fuel code. It's a complete start-from-scratch sorta thing, and has a LOT of extra goodies (rotational idle, SPARK cut ALS, hybrid Alpha-N mapping, 3D boost control, selectable MAP input, basic ECT-based RPM limiting, big fuel and timing mapping up to 8500+, etc). It's all free too, http://www.dsmecu.com ;). It's in beta test phase right now, but if you're willing to share your experiences to help make it better...register at the link! :).

Holy junkyard score Batman!

A s16G in perfect shape! No abnormal shaft play, no wheel damage (the wheel is gunky, not bent), and the hotside is dry as a bone! The local junkyard chain has set prices too, so it was $50 ;).

Image

I also got an eprom ecu that's been socketed and repaired already, $15! I don't need it, but it's always good to have a spare.

My 1.6 died a painful death a few weeks ago, this will go on my 2.0 once I get some injectors :).

I'm pretty stoked about this find. Good stuff like this doesn't pop up often around here. I wish I could have grabbed the injectors, but they were gone.

So I got tired of my droopy driver's door, but didn't want to spend big bucks buying replacement hinges...if they even exist still. I took off the worst one, only to discover they are not rebuildable.

...well, they're not SUPPOSED to be, anyway ;).

I ground off one end of the pin, punched it out, filled in the nasty deep grooves with weld, and ground it back down again. Threw it back together, tack welded it back into the hinge, and put it on. Droop all gone, and no money spent. I can open and close the door without ANY clunks now, and I'm pretty stoked. I hate drooping doors.

I didn't snap any pics, unfortunately. It was -10*C in the garage, so I had to move fast, lol.

Comparing pics of the DSM hinge to the stock colt hinge makes me think they're a direct fit, even though the part #s are different. I was going to try one, but got too impatient to wait for the junkyard to open (closed for christmas)...and I prefer older-school methods. If it's broke, take it apart and fix it :).

Basically, all I did was grind the round 'cap' off the hinge pin, and punched it out. Due to sagging for so long, the pin had deep grooves in it on one side, where it wore down under the weight of the door. It's 5/16" (8mm) in diameter, but every bit of steel rod/bolt/pin I could find at the local industrial supply place were all 1/32" too small (even though listed as 5/16"). I tried a few things, but everything was too loose. I fired up my welder, cranked up the heat, and laid a few light beads in the grooves, to fill them back up. Then I took a grinder and re-shaped the pin, polished it a bit with some emery cloth (although the bushing is bronze, so it wasn't super necessary IMO), and tapped it back in. The pin is supposed to be immobile in the hinge, so I put a tiny tack weld at each end. I can always grind it down if I have to remove it again.

Over the holidays I may order a 1G DSM hinge repair kit, since they apparently exist, and see if those pins & bushings would work. Any DSM hinge I grab from the yard is probably going to be droopy too...those doors are HEAVY, lol.

I just ordered some up from overseas, and they arrived yesterday. Until I install them, they are available for comparison. After that, we can compare the old ones.
