I'm no stranger to cars or how to build engines or do custom fab. But I figure I'd ask the guys who know what did and did NOT work for them because I try and re-invent the wheel. I was very impressed with the timeslips of 4G61 turbo colts and have spent the past few days reading up on what makes a good 1/4 car but still daily drive able.

I'm picking up my 86 Colt turbo this coming week and wish to be informed on what is the "Best" motor choice when it comes to bang for buck and dollar for dollar. So far what I can gather for good mods are:

- Big Evo 16G turbo
- efficient intercooler setup
- 4G6x motor
- Appropriate Fuel supply
- Some sort of effective ECU tuning software
- Slicks
- Limited Slip?

I also have a few technical questions related to 4G6x such as:
Will the 4G63/4 hybrid be better out of the hole or just cause more traction issues? If so then the 4G61 would be a better choice?

My goal is 11s:Image
I live at 5500ft elevation.
with poor air quality due to being surrounded by a desert/mesa.

I really appreciate the help in advance guys.

I would go have a look in the 1st Gen/2nd Gen thread..

Personally I would look for a 89 or up colt so your swap to the 4g61/3 would be much easier.

A regular 4g63t is going to be the best option, in my opinion. A 4g63/4 hybrid is going to be extremely torquey, so yes, you will have a ton more wheelspin to deal with, plus it's a lot more expensive to build one of these as opposed to just dropping in a 4g63t and calling it a day. The 4g61 is a great motor, but they are very difficult to find as they are an extremely rare engine in the US. You're on the right track with everything in your list, that setup in a light car will easily do 11's with slicks.
