You don't. When boost hits, the fronts light up, the car side-steps across lanes and then you get pulled over. So I've heard.
Until you get an alignment, then the car stops changing lanes out of nowhere. Brilliant!

True, laying tire at 60 isn't enough to get rolled.

Crazy that this thread just was bumped since I started some mods today. Decided to try lowering the car and installing some suspension that I acquired.

Through some friends I obtained H&R lowering springs for a 1g dsm awd. Koni yellow strut inserts inside stock 1g dsm awd strut bodies and kyb agx rear shocks. Also some stock 1g dsm springs.

I decided to install the koni struts with the H&R lowering springs in the front, and the kyb's with stock 1g stock springs in the rear.

First, I decided to tackle the rear knowing I may have to fab a little. After i removed the stock shock assemblies, I noticed a huge difference in the lower bushings from csm to dsm.
Image

The ID of the steel sleeve in the bushing is different, even though the sleeve is clamped between the ears on the dead axle, the width of the sleeve was to short also. So I used the lathe at work to make my own sleeve to install inside the awd shock to correct everything. The sleeve had a 12.5mm ID, .80" OD and 2.175" length.

The sleeve is almost a pressed interference but not quite. If it were to rust in, i would ruin the shock trying to get it out. Here is the final out come, made the shock bolt right in.

After that was all installed, I put the Koni's and awd H&R's in the front. This was allot of work and I was slightly disappointed in the outcome. The rear only came down by about 3/4 of an inch. (reading on here, I thought stock 1g rear springs would slam the back) The front only came down about a 1/2 inch.

I was even further disappointed when I headed home for the night. The car rides pretty rough. Not sure what the spring rates of the H&R's are, and I figured 1g awd rear springs might be a little stiff, but damn. Every crack in the road is a light pounding and bigger bumps just feel like the car has very little give.

It was late tonight so I do not have pics of it yet. Hope to get those tomorrow and experiment with the shock settings.

Using AWD springs does not really lower the car. Using AWD struts in the rear is what slams it to the ground.

Yep, welcome to my world when I had a CSM. Playing with the shock settings won't make much of a difference, you're stuck with it like this. There just isn't enough suspension travel. :-?

Well adjustment of the shocks actually did help allot as far as controlling the bounce. However, the car still hits cracks in the road very hard. It just doesn't weight enough to collapse the springs.

So I took my stock OEM Colt springs and put them on the spring rate tester at work. Both front and rears measured out to 100-125 lbs at 1 and 2 inches of compression.

I would like to make my own coil over set up using a 150-200 lb spring. I think a slightly stiffer spring will give the car better handling and a sportier feel.

I also measured my H&R 1G DSM AWD front springs. They are a progressive spring. In the first inch of compression they measured out at about 200 lbs and in the second inch, about 275ish. So way to stiff for this little car.

I also think for a budget builder, a great option is 1awd adjustable shocks and cut CSM springs. Cutting the spring lowering the car and should put you in the 200 lb range.

I also spent some time working on my current brakes. The rear pads were seized in the caliper mounting bracket. Also most of the sliders were seized and ebrake parts. I free'd everything up and adjusted the ebrake. Just have one cable that is hanging up a bit. Car feels allot better now with rear brake, it's crazy that I didn't even know they were not there before. Much more balanced!

About 5 hours

What you heading here for? Aren't you from NC? I'm from Duluth Minnesota, not Georgia.

Well ran into a road block today that will put a halt on the 5 lug swap. When I first started researching this, I spoke to a fellow CSM'er about how he converted his rear to 5 lug. He said he drilled new holes in his hubs and pressed studs in. Here are the pictures from his swap:

Here are all 4 hubs

Here is a close up where you can see the 4 lug holes welded up

When I got the back of my car apart, here is what I found with my hubs:

Mine are notched for some reason and the gussets cast into the back prevent me from pressing studs in square.

So, back to more research. I'm not sure if I have to get hubs from another car or what to do next.

I think you have to get the hubs from a 92 mirage sedan GS..

its the sedan with the 1.6.
