Post subject: | My first AWD colt build thread UPDATED NOW WITH VIDEOS |
Well i picked her up about a month or so ago from Hemi-colt (steve). I actually knew this car from back home in Indiana about 5 years ago before I joined the military. I didnt even realize that this was the same car becuase it had been tossed around through alot of people. It has been in Texas, Indiana, Ohio, Colorado, and now California. I have another colt that I was building to be a beast but decided to discontinue that build and pursue this awd colt. I have already took everything out of my FWD colt and put the 1.6 back in with a toned down setup. I am eventually going to put my built 2.0 liter in the AWD but I am going to wait until this motor pops first. I am also going to get a built tranny and twindisk setup when I can get some funds together. Anyways, I have been doing some work over the past month so I thought i would start a build thread on it...Enjoy This is the engine bay when I first got it. First thing I did was strip it out and take out the 3Aracing seats. Found some pink spray paint Decided to decorate the fuel cell Picked up some used Sparco Fighter Seats to replace the 3Aracing seats. I got them for $350 which is fairly cheap and they are in pretty good condition. The brackets actually turned out to be pretty easy and the install went smooth. I picked up some new harness's and got those installed as well. I think it turned out pretty decent. I also spray painted the inside of the car black to touch up the rough spots. Everybody needs a little dashboard jesus in there life. I picked up this holset setup from a guy on dsmlink from Ohio for $850 shipped! Its a custom DSM flange Topmount/38mm flange with HX40 pro 6 blade w/ Coated BEP housing. This will be my first Holset setup so I am curious to see how it performs. Downpipe came with it but I made a different one so I could run a side exit out of the bumper. Some test fitment Pulled the front end off and took the intercooler setup off. This intercooler that I pulled off is a beast. Got the wastegate installed and the battery pulled out so it can be installed in the back. Got the battery box mounted and wires ran. I am going to install the cutoff on the rear bumper in the near future. Welding up some radiator brackets for my Afco custom size radiator. I also got my new oil drain made up and installed. I made my new downpipe for the side exit out of the bumper. It actually turned out pretty nice. The radiator fitment worked out perfectly and got that installed. Now on to the heat exchanger for my air to water intercooler setup. I made some brackets for the bottom and used the top brackets from my other car. It sits real nice and fills the bumper cut otu hole just right. Last night I spent the whole night finished up all the plumbing and getting the full air to water setup installed. I started it up and its nearing completion. I need to install my new catch can/valve cover too. My next steps will be to finish the interior and figure out what gauge setup I am going to use. Lots more to come and hopefully some timeslips soon! Let me know what you guys think. -David |

I miss that car alot i wish i would of just kept it...I'm glad to see all the progress being made great job....One thing get rid of that thing at the throttle body that will cause you some issues the air will hit a brick wall causing a vortex in side the pipe i would cut it off and do a 90 degree coupler there but that is my opinion.....http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_ ... 94546d425b |

I was kinda worried about that.... it is what steve (biglady) ran on his car so i going to try it out. I am probably going to go ahead and get a coupler though |

Love your turbo setup, make sure you get the oiling right the first time, some people like ignore that and blow turbos that last 300k+ miles. |

Looks good Dave. Jake called me and told me about it. I would say run what you have already installed. If you feel there are issues then change it. But even with the goofy angle, that thing is not going to come apart. A coupler as it is currently configured will just slip off. You know all these guys here are fluid dynamics specialists, but I was working with what I had in the garage. And if there are any doubts that it will perform and make power, here are two videos Dave. Again, this is the best we could come up with in a hurry in the garage. Good luck, just make sure you keep this car and get rid of everything else when you get deployed. It is hard to come across an AWD CSM that was done decently, let alone done at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8xbU4qMBcI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x_IdB-cpM4 |

Car looks good.. Idk if you remember dale on here.. "t2fastalon" But that turbo set up was originally on his purple FWD colt. then onto another one or three of his cars. The fmic that was on that car IIRC is a 500hp garrett core. |

Alright so got this thing all put together and went out for about 10-15 pulls and sprung a huge oil leak. Oil was all over the back of the car and the underside. I think it is coming from the oil pan gasket underneath the crank pulley but IDK. The couple of pulls I did get in though were pretty quick. I started to pull the oil pan and had to take the transfer case and driver side axle out. I ended up saying screw it and pulled the motor because i needed to anyways to put my built motor in. I was really only using the motor as a mock up engine to install everything else. So I got the motor pulled out and bought some new goodies to put on. I am waiting on those parts to come in and I will be putting everything back on. I bought a used PTT twin disk, COP setup, scatter shield, fic 1600's, and speed desnity sensors and pigtails. I am going to go ahead and make the swing to speed density and E85 with the new motor. I also went ahead and powerwashed the car to clean up the engine bay and get rid of all the oil that was all underneath the car and the back of it. As of now i am waiting on the twin disk so I can put the motor back in. Tick...tick...toc..... Motor coming out My built 2.0 wiseco's and eagle's. fp2's Powerwashed it to clean it up some New COP setup and scatter shield |

Well finally got my twin disk in....got the engine in the car and it starts up and moves. I have lots of random stuff to do to get it finished. I need to get a plastic 55 gallon drum so i can store E85 in the garage. I put the 780's back in for now and kept the GM maf on to get it going. I am going to covert it over to speed density soon. I should have some more updates soon as I finish piecing this car together. I am going to Vegas on Friday for so have to take a small break. New motor is 6 bolt block bored .020 over New crank at time of build Wiseco 9:1 compression Pistons Eagle H-beam Rods ARP Head studs, main studs Fel-Pro Performance headgasket Head was ported on intake and exhaust side Manley valve springs New valves at time of build Forced Performance FP2X cams Balance shaft removed New oil pump New water pump New lifters Got the PTT in the mail finally took a month to get here from a guy I bought it from.... Motor finally in... Only the best of fluids.... Got these from a 1g that I picked to part out. I definately like the way these look on the colt. They need some beefier tires though. |

Post subject: | Re: My first AWD colt build thread *UPDATED NOW WITH VIDEOS* |
Well.....its been awhile since I posted anything up. I have been super busy with the military and its hard to find time to squeeze in to work on my cars. I actually just left for South Korea about a month ago and just got to posting this up with some updated info. I will be in Korea for a year so its going to be along sad year away from cars... But I did at least get my colt on the road with a base tune before I left. I ran into lots of minor things that set me back for awhile but over time fixed them all and finished it up. The car is on the road now and running fairly good. I drove it about an hour to a car meet before I left and it made it there and back with no issues. Its currently on a base tune that I threw on it just to get it on the road. I am proud though that i did get it running considering i just crossed over to Speed density, E85, and 2150cc injectors. I jumped into the conversion with little to no knowledge and only forum thread reading to get started. I am still very much a DSMlink newbie but have played around with it enough and had lots of trial and error to get the car going and base tuned. I am just going to post up some current pics and some videos that i took before I left. it still needs some work and a definate tune by someone who knows what they are doing. On my last couple of pulls I was spinning through street tires @ 28 psi and it felt amazing. This is definately the fastest car I have owned at it has alot of potential. After a few pulls I felt complete I can't wait to see what this car is capable of in the near future. So now its a year of planning and researching while I am in Korea so I can come back and hit the dragstrip. I still have a 2.3 fully built stroker and shep stage 4 tranny that i haven't installed....
