Well since I got a hold of an 89 Conquest Rear subframe, rear end, and suspension (thanks to Craig "GSX'). I figured it was time to get started on my 89 Mirage Gt AWD project.

Love the rotisserie mod, and I can't wait to see the 89 Conquest mod. That sounds like a heavy duty rear.

Your going rwd or awd? Why are you using the starion rearend instead of 1g awd? Looks like your making quick progress, keep it up!

Wow, an AWD swap using StarQuest parts? That's a new one to me. Good luck man, this should be a neat project.

AWD. The starion axles are about twice the thickness of the talon stuff. A local guy has been running high 9s to low 10s on an 89 rear end in his quest for over 2yrs now. So I'm pretty sure I won't be needing a replacement. After looking over Craig's (GSX) quest and seeing how easily a 8.8 independent can be fitted into the quest subframe it seemed to be a no brainer.
Also the Conquest setup is about 4" more narrow then a colt rearend so it will make room for a nice fatty under the back of the car.

That's a pretty cool idea. Is the Conquest gear ratio gonna work with the DSM transmission?

Tonus he said he was gonna use an 8.8 in the starion subframe. probably just use a lsd diff from a t-bird turbo coupe after that.

EDIT. I did a little research and found this:
"All 5 speed SC’s and XR7’s came standard with a 2.73:1 ratio ring and pinion
gear. Most automatic equipped SC’s and XR7’s came with 3.27:1 gears. "
The thunderbird SC is the only IRS 8.8 that I know of, possibly Lincold Continental Mark VIII's too. sadly the above info means that the gears are not worth it, and 3.55:1 LSD rearends only came in 5-speed Turbo-coupes. the auto had 3.73's

That will probably involve some customization on the axles to get them to mate to the Ford diff. There better be 20 pics or more of this part of the conversion, not to mention mounting the subframe. None of this dead-topic/long-term-update-its-running-now/pics-when-i-get-it-on-a-lift blahblah

good luck

~joe
