Hi all, I'm new to the site but I've been into DSM's for about ten years now. My friends and I found a good deal on a Mirage turbo that we just couldn't pass up. It has some fire damage but nothing too serious, just some wires, a fender, and a hood. I've got a lot to learn about these things, like getting the dash out lol. There must be some hidden bolts somewhere. There are some pretty big plans for the car but as of now we are putting a 4G63 in it so we can drive it to shootout. Our long term goal is going to be 2.4 and AWD, but thats a ways down the road. So after spending 750 dollars and driving 800 miles in 16 hours here she is.

After some minor clean up, basically just removing the burnt stuff.

I'm gonna try scrubbing the balls outta this thing tomorrow and try to get some of that black off. If it comes out good I'll post some more pics.

Besides that whole "burnt" thing the chassis looks like it is in great shape. If only cars like that were to be found in the rust belt.

Yeah body wise this thing is in great shape!

I just learned that the guy we got the car off is a member on this site. Thought that it was a funny coincidence since we found the car on Galantvr4.org and thought I'd post up a couple of his pics.

Here's the car pre-fire:

And immediately after:

Well I got some more clean up done in the engine bay today. Pulled the rack and sway bar too. I think I'm done cleaning the engine bay finally. I am going to go over it with a scuff pad and some primer maybe this weekend. We agreed on just painting the bay black. It will help whats under the hood look uninteresting as it will have a black valve cover, intake manifold, and intercooler pipes. We also took the dash out and took ever piece of ducting that we could out, as well as take the frame off the hood too. Anyways, here's some pics!

Thought I'd throw in an old one just for comparison.

I forgot to get a picture, but since this I scraped the glue spots off and scrubbed the hood.
Image

We dropped 5 pounds just from that!
Image

Here's some of the stuff we pulled outta the dash, minus the carpet, battery tray, and master cylinder of course.

Here is what the dash looks like right before we installed it. Nice and empty!

That's it for now, thanks for looking!

So the engine bay is finished. At least until we take it back apart later on down the road. We decided to paint it a semi-gloss black and clear it. Finished it up today. Heres some pics:

And no. I did not paint over the VIN plate. It is masked off :)

I painted the underside of the hood too. And once again, I masked off the labels. They're just too bad ass to get rid of.

The hood isn't that bright. It matches the bay.
