My friend sold his 4ws 89 Prelude 2.0Si last week because he found this 90 GSX in Alabama, that has an incredibly clean shell, and supposedly had one owner and was never modded. His original plan was to build the Honda, but after a ride in my 4G63T Colt, he came to his senses.

He drove the car up from Alabama last night, and dropped it off at my shop today. He says he want's a reliable, streetable 500-700 Hp, without sacrificing any comforts, of a DD.

Here's a couple before photos that I took in the pitch dark with a flash:

^^^ 90 Eclipses don't have that part here in NY^^^

So far the No-mods I've found on the car are:
-Aftermarket sway bars front and rear(two bars in the front)
-HKS high flow airbox
-full 2.5" Mandrel bent exhaust
-TD05H on compressor housing
-larger UICP and 2g TB elbow
-ceramic coated manifold
-right fog lamp delete

The first thing I did when he pulled up was tighten the clamp on the coupler to the TB elbow; it's a miracle t didn't blow off! We then went for a ride, and he was shocked by how much better it ran, but it still has no balls. Boost only hit's around 10 psi, but it seems it should do much better in the butt dyno department.

Ps. He said he paid $2500 for it.

Having a totally streetable DSM with 500-700hp is not going to be an easy task. I hope he's prepared to spend a lot of money.

Tell him 350 hp should put a smile on his face. 500-700hp is going to kill him in the wallet, but if he's not shy in that department then go ahead. But goshy...why do people need that much power for a DD!

I'm pretty sure the money part is covered, but I dont think he really needs more than 500 HP personally. He doesn't want to DD the car, but he wants a fun summer ride, that kicks ass at the track, but that's fun and not a chore to drive on the street.

What do you guys think is a good turbo choice for decent spool but 500 or so HP?

Im building a Wiseco/Eagle forged 2.4 for my DD. Im hoping to make 500-550 on race fuel, I will be using a Holset HX35.

a holset hx35 will be a good 500 hp turbo
pte 6262 is a nice guy
or a 35r, hta is even better, both will go high 600's or better with good fuel

I think he's aiming to do it on 93 octane pump gas, but water/meth injection isn't out of the question. We're meeting up at the shop in a few minutes to get started on this project. I'll try to get more info about his goals, and what lengths he's willing to go to fill the tank. Around here there's 93 octane at any gas station, 100 octane at Delta Sonic for $7+ per gallon, and I've heard rumors of e85, but never seen it at a pump.

Edit: I'll probably snap a few more photos too.

Don't waste your time or money using 93 octane or 100 octane if you have access to E85. Use the E85 and never look back...

e85 with water meth and 30lbs will suit him well!!! 30/40 is the new 20 now a days right?

Sorry I didn't get any more pictures, I was too busy standing under the car with my jaw hanging open. I can't believe how clean the car is. Even the bolts underneath are all still that shiny gold finish.

We discussed his fuel options today, and we're thinking 93 octane with water/meth. We think there's one gas station in our immediate area that sells e85, and he doesn't want to go through the hassle of looking for it when it's time to fill up. I suggested using dual boost settings, and setting the meth to spray only on the high boost level.

I took more pictures today. I was wrong about the 2g TB elbow, it's an HKS elbow. Image

I also found some kind of dual fuel pressure regulator on it. Anybody seen this before?

There's this on the fuel supply line, but no fuel pressure gauge.

So far we changed out the shifter with the one from my 91. It turns out to have a much shorter throw than the one that was in there, besides the fact that the bushings were all missing from the original.

The fuel stuff looks like a Home Depot AFPR. I would pull it off and return it to stock without any of that on there. If you are going to use one, invest in a good one.

Have fun with it since it's a 90 :p Tons of stupid little things on them that will bug the piss out of you.

Post subject:  Re: John's Golden Eclipse: The build thread?

That is not a Home Depot AFPR. The extra fuel regulator is a knockoff Vortech FMU or Fuel Management Unit. FMU's were designed specifically for super charger kits and are calibrated for individual kits based on boost. They are installed down stream from the stock regulator to add fuel only under boost. Ideally for the 600 hp goal an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator such as an Aeromotive A1000 should be used. The AFPR allows the adjustability at idle and is just like a stock FPR with adding a pound of fuel pressure for every pound of boost pressure.

Wow, that car has some old-school mods on it for sure. I'd ditch that FMU thing with the quickness.
