Basically what happens with the pump is at High RPMs, 9000+, The timing belt gets so tight that it pulls on that lower right oil pump gear and twists it upwards causing it to dig into the case. A theory is that because the later oil pump gears were spiral that it makes it even easier to twist and dig up the case. This is the first time I have tried these straight cut gears, so I have polished and debured them just as I usually do, packed the pump with assembly lube and well see how well this works. Another key to keeping your oil pump from doing this is making sure your hydro tensioner is not over tightened so it has a little room to let the belt loosen and tighen at high RPMs.

Thanks everyone. Being in the business I just keep coming up on deals on bigger and better parts. This turbo and manifold setup is only to get the car running and down the track a few times. My plans by next winter is to make a long tube header with a S372 peaking out through the grill, build 2G automatic tranny, 10 point cage, chute, and enough power to run in the 8s.

I just have a feeling before Im done I will come up on a 2000 Mirage and an EVO engine. A later model body will get alot more feedback from magazines and more attention at races which is really what Im looking for anyways.

Yeah the late models do tend to get a lot more exposure than our cars but hey, these are called old school now, not just the old carolla's, AE86's and RX-3's anymore even though we are FWD.

That's a different league of old-school. Our cars are old school like 88-91 Honda Civics are old-school.
