You'll need some parts off that 1.6. Like the coolant tube. If you don't want that I know someone that does :o

So safety next weekend then?

I'll probably just modify the pipe, since I really don't want to touch any of the seals/gaskets, lol. It's a bone-dry engine, and I seem to have bad luck with leaks. My lower coolant pipe is very non-stock, so it's no big deal to change it. The oil cooler/OFH won't be used, so I'll just plug the feed. The 14b coolant return line is still there though, which is awesome. The balance shaft delete has already been done too, so I won't have to swap any of that over.

This weekend I'll be running a marathon engine swap, which I'll probably regret...but I really want to put it away running. If it's dry enough, maybe even try again to safety/etest it.

It only took me 6 months to re-install mine. ;)

Pics of bad pistons or it didn't happen! Haha, doh!

The pics of the 1.6 won't happen for a while. Big priority is to get it out and get the 2.0 in this weekend. Once that's done, the 1.6 goes on the stand and the teardown begins.

I have to laugh at myself, or I'll go nuts. I just finished putting the 1.6 back in, and now I have to take it out, lol.

I REALLY want to get my s16G rebuilt now that the bigger engine is going in :supz: .

Let me know where you find a source for small/big/Genuine Evo3 center section rebuilds/journal bearings that fit. I sent a center section of a TD05 14b to RTM Racing for dissection, the kit they had few months back, was looking like a rebuild kit for the knockoff TD05's/EVO3 GT, every other part looked and fit identical for a TD05 center.

My s16G needs a compressor wheel badly, so I'd be sending it off to the turbo guy we use at the shop. I am not confident enough to play with the innards of turbos, lol.

I'd love to go bigger, but I don't have the clutch for big torque...nor the transmission, lol.

if you guys want your turbos rebuilt I can do that, provided that the wheels etc are not all chewed up.
even if they are, I have had success rebuilding stock housing turbos

^^^ Good to know. I just up and ordered a TD05/TD06 major rebuild kit from tradergreg on e-Crater.

http://tradergreg.ecrater.com/

http://tradergreg.ecrater.com/p/2826551 ... td05+major

RTM's kit at the time was designed for what appeared to be a knock-off ebay shaft that was larger in the journal bearing area, same journal bearing outside diameter though. Until that is rectified, I had to go elsewhere for the kit.

I typically use GPOP shop, great prices and great parts.

Swap mostly done. I need an oil return line (4G61T is shorter than the 4G63T...should have figured that), but it's pretty much ready to go. I also took the time to do the skateboard-bearing shifter upgrade :).

The lesson learned here is that no matter how 'fresh' an engine is...always check the timing belt before install. The engine was built at my friend's shop, by the best DSM techs in the city, but originally belonged to their co-op kid. They let him put the oil pan on...and even though they warned him REPEATEDLY to only put the SHORT bolts under the timing gear, he used the long ones. My fault for not checking. Nothing tore though, thankfully.

At least everything else looks spot on, and all the components are new (barely 300 km on them), so I just need to put on a new belt. I'll be finishing that up tonight. I also got a box of goodies from RTM Racing (vacuum line, oil return, nylon PCV valve), so I'm ready to finish it up.

I've been accused of being ghetto in the past...but there's no way I'd run that belt, haha.

The timing belt cam gear lock tool I got from 91talonharv has paid for itself already. This is the second time I've used it in a year, I love that thing! :).

Well, thanks to Flying Admin...I may have discovered why my 1.6 died. It turns out that my ecu is possibly fried. When plugged into his car, it runs like crap...but when his ecu (with the same chip in it) is plugged in, it runs great! I had it socketed by DSMlink, and some tracks repaired, but it looks like it may have to go back for further fixes :(.

It looks like I'll be sticking with the mitsu ecu stuff for a while, or going megasquirt, lol.

So...it turns out my ecu may not be dead. I plugged it all in to do a bit of testing, and everything worked perfectly.
It's not running yet, but I was able to trace the TPS and ECT sensor, which I was not able to do earlier. For some reason, I had stacked a second socket in the ecu, and my emulator cable was run into that. My best guess is that there was a corruption in communication because of that, although it hadn't shown up before.

Stranger things have happened I guess.
