Long ago I made my hatchback awd, loved it but it had rust in the wrong places and I shouldn't have made it awd. After a few years I parted it out. Parts were scattered across the community and some of them went to a user j2dapo in Calgary. He made used some of my stuff to complete his awd swap on his 1991 summit. Now I have his car that he built, which ironically has some parts in it that I made roughly 15 years ago lol.

Some things right from the start. The oil cooler is in the front drivers fender in front of the tire. This caused the bumper to not be bolted up, so I am going to slightly relocate it and try and get some airflow up into it. The intercooler sits too high preventing the grille from being mounted along with the metal trim under it. Will probably work on lowering it this winter.

The fuel gauge does not work in this cell, but its a pretty small cell so I might get a larger one made/built before repairing this one. Plus its missing the cover which it needs.

It has a 4 bolt diff in it. Not a fan of the exhaust routing. Its not too secure and the slightest movement and it hits the diff and one of the bearings on the driveshaft.

Rear shocks are in great shape still, it has adjustable lower and upper control arms along with the adjustable heims on the main arms. The upper arms are both slightly bent from making contact with a portion of the frame in the wheel well. I assume it does this on fun launches. Will either look at getting the bent aftermarket one or making my own.

Mitsu steering wheel :D with tilt and telescopic adjustments lol.

The door panels don't match each other and the fabric is falling off. The seats need to be recovered, possibly want to keep the center part of the fabric and put new side pieces in? Will have to talk to the guy who does the work and see what he thinks.

The car has 680cc injectors in it and a larger fuel pump. Not totally sure what this turbo is other than its from Forced Performance. It has no identifiable tags or engravings other than the 40 on this wheel and the a/r.60 on the compressor housing.

The front struts were shot, so I put some KYB ones in with new upper mounts. It badly needed one ball joint and tie rod, so I have a new set on the way. It currently has the stock rotors up front and the larger rear brakes from a gvr4. So I have new front bearings, gvr4 rotors and some calipers on the way for it. Its been a while but I think thats what I had on my awd swapped colt at the end and it seemed to work well.

As mentioned before it did not run. Had no power on any of the sensors and MPI relay were not powering up properly. I jumpered out the relay and put power to the sensors. It still had no spark. So I took the Link G4X ecu from my 4g64 swapped D50 (shares the same ECU connectors still), put it in the car, moved one wire and downloaded a stock configuration into it. We had spark. So with Flying Eagles help we found out what injectors were in it, got it running and started tuning it (this was before I took the wheels off to find the bad tie rods and ball joints haha). Turbo works good, clutch is good, trans seems good, howl in the rear on decel and a bit on acceleration, quiet when cruising. The rear bearings are loose and sound dry, so I have a new set on the way for it too.

So for now I have one ECU that I am swapping between two vehicles, downloading different configs with each time I swap. Going to get some prices on some options this week I think but I am leaning towards leaving the G4X in the Summit and buying a Link Extreme or Furyx for the D50 as I am finding I need more I/O for it for what I want. The D50 is setup for drive by wire, getting an electric water pump, and finding that traction control would be nice to have with the street tires on it.

Anyways, I am happy with the car. Not too sure what my full future plans are with it other than getting the rust patches repaired in the rear fenders before it gets out of control.

Looks like you can handle whatever this car throws at you.
Funny, this body style is 25 years old, but doesn't look dated to me at all.
I fully approve of the Kroil for getting rusty stuff loose. :supz:
