Man you guys must have hacked that bumper almost all the way thru to get that intercooler to fit. Got a pick of whats left of the bumper, or how much you cut off? Got anymore EVO intercoolers? If so how much?

i really didn't touch the bumper until the very end...even then there was only minimal cutting...to fit the very bottom half of the IC. i did take out the bumper support and attached the bumper cover to the strip in between the headlights/bumper.

i also removed my AC fan because it was seized...and bent the AC lines around to where they were flush with the AC condenser. i'm surprised as many people have issues with fitment after doing this...cause i found there was more room than i expected making things pretty easy.

the stock EVO1 piping makes it much easier as well...and unfortunately i don't know of anyone selling a stock evo IC with stock piping...again the guy i know has a lot of evo parts because he has an OEM lancer evo1.

That looks awesome!

With the piping, Did you use/modify the original evo cooler piping or did you have to use other piping as well?

I so regret cutting up my bumper :( I originally did fit the cooler under the bar but thought that the bumper was too much of a restriction so I cut it up. Now the cooler is too obvious :(

I want to change over to evo cooler piping for the longer length as ive heard it gives better midrange.

Here are some pics of my setup.

It has a layer of flyscreen mesh over it now and I plan to add another layer when I find the time.

It is so hard to find a unhacked front bar for a reasonable price!!!

i don't want to a hater, but it is useless with all of that bumper in front of the intercooler. might as wheel not have one. the gray on has the bumper that you need.

switch, i love the front bumper...i'd switch to a jdm front bumper in a heartbeat if i could find someone who could export one over here.

as far as the piping, only one piece of piping was shortened and we kinda eliminated the curved piece of piping that goes underneath the passenger side headlight. basically, a friend of mine used a core bit to drill two holes where the windshield wiper fluid container is...in the engine bay. (actually slightly lower...but it helps to understand where i'm talking about)

the piping as it is now works pretty well...and i'm just faced now with a better intake pipe design. as i fine tune this setup (and go with a small 16g) i'll keep everyone updated on the performance/dyno numbers this setup makes.

jerry, the guy i bought this setup from has a lancer evo1. he went 13.0@103 with stock everything, running 19psi. after the change to an evo8 IC with revised piping he said the car picked up 15-20hp but he did a few other things to his setup...making it difficult to say the intercooler was responsible for the increase in power.

oh you have a 4g63 swap

has anyone here installed an evo cooler on a 4g61 ?

i do have a 2.0 liter swap...

all of my friends have 4g63's in their mirage/colt's...but i'm sure an evo IC is more than enough for most 4g61t setups.

and for all of the guys overseas...that have access to a JDM front bumper...i'll buy one if its in good condition...please let me know!

In all honesty, I think the front bar copy Tom was selling on the board would be a whole lot cheaper then getting one from over here.

They are about $400AUD 2nd hand over here + postage would make it not very economical! And they are difficult to find!

I might have a go at sourcing some evo cooler piping...

I have the starion i/c on my colt which is about the same size as the evo. I'll try to get some pictures up, but mine took about two days of on off work to install. As im sure Chet would tell you its a lot of trial and error, but once its in........hehe, hello 22 psi!! :D

hey guys, i have a 4g61t with a jdm vr4 kooler and custom piping. from what i have experienced the shorter the ic piping the better. it gives much better throttle response and even a bit better spool up. the longer piping only gave a very very small advantage in the mid range. what you guys could try is if you use 2inch piping you can cut a small unused piece of the head light and pass it behind that, turn the turbo outlet the other way and run the ic piping that way. i cuts out heaps of length out of the piping. i have an evo interkooler that i am selling but i live is aust. not sure how much it would cost to send to the us.
mike if you are after ic piping i know a place in vic that has a set for 200 bucks. i can put you in touch if interested.

I have heard, and seen Dyno graphs of a very big increase in midrange power and torque with the longer cooler piping. On a pretty stock 4g93t (1.8 dohc turbo) a gain of about 20kw atw was measured!

Update on the Jdm bumper. I rang the wrecker this morning and he quoted me $425 for a bumper but he doesnt have any instock and he said they are getting harder to find! Ill check out some other wreckers for avaliability and price.

sounds good man, i really appreciate it.

as far as the midrange...i'll be dynoing my car once i have a small 16g on the car...so we'll see what kinda power my setup makes.

i'm hoping for around 280-300whp with a small 16g...
