I have access to a welder and a friend and I are making ic pipes for my fmic. I was wondering, how many people would be intrested in buying coustom mandrel bent intercooler pipes and also larger diameter turbo outlet pies for thier cars. It would be made from alumizied steel. I was thinking about making like ten sets for people with dsm smic's or side to side fmic's depending on how many would be intrested in them. I haven't made anything so I'm trying to gauge intrest. Thanks.. |

I made my own intercooler piping.. I don't know if people would be that happy with them since there is no precise way to mount said intercoolers on our cars. People might have the intercooler on, then try to put the piping on and find out the way you happened to mount the IC isn't anywhere near the way that you did yours. I considered doing the same thing and making sets, but didn't bother for those reasons (even though I can whip up a full set of piping with the chopsaw, and welder in about 15 mins) . Oh yeah, and aluminized pipes suck, I found that out the hard way. It's not fun to take off your 6 month-old IC pipes, then find out that they are all rusty on the inside. You don't want that rust going into your engine. The aluminum content is never nearly high enough to help, I swear, they might as well just call them mild steel. If you're making them, do it right, learn to weld stainless steel and make them out of stainless so you won't have to make them over again. |

update: jc whitney now sells t304 stainless pipeshttp://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... reId=10101 so thats a relief, since i was counting on that alumized steel piping and then learned that it sucks and had already sold my galant piping.. whew! the best prices from what i have seen on other sites as well. |

Dejontools piping for thier front mount intercooler fits the mirage pretty good. I'm using thier intercooler to radiator pipe that goes thry the radiator support (needs minor trimming on support, none on piping). Good pricing also. |

It's is always better to build your own pipes, you can run the stuff the way you want and the fitment will second to none. Just make sure you dont use alumnized pipes (as for mentioned above) 6061 al or stainless 304 or 321. If you have acess to a TIG welder go for it, you will save a ton of money and learn something in the process. I run a Miller SD180 Syncrowave TIG, it works great cost on it was only $1575 with the torch/bottle/foot control and accesories. heck make two I/C kits and it pays for itself. |

Yep, mild steel bend work just as well, just make sure you paint them or they will rust very quickly. |

Thats the point I was making.....I don't want anything going into my engine except filtered air; Use stainless. Oh..and how exactly would you go about painting the INSIDE of a curvy pipe? Completely submerge it in paint and get runs all over it? |
