you'll have punch out your spare tire well and relocate your gas tank under it. and the diff will go in its place, you may have to fab up a bigger tunnel where the exahust goes or relocate the exhaust and put the driveshaft in its place. Does anyone know the 1g's wheel base? the driveshaft may be to long and the rear axle may be to wide. just a few thoughts. |

this idea has been pondered many times over. you would need to have a driveshaft custom made or modify the DSM driveshaft. you would have to custom mount the DSM rear diff and suspension in the rear and maintain the right suspension geometry. you would have to custom fabricate mounts for the AWD tranny. the whole system would add a considerable amount of weight to the car. the costs pretty much outweight the benifits. just get a AWD DSM. unless your just doing it for the fun of it, then by all means go for it. theres nothing like fabrication and seeing the end result. someone on these boards was going to make a kit to convert to awd. |

You can use a DSM trans, with the DSM mount it bolts right into the AWD Lancers (C73A). Use the Mirage/Lancer driveshaft, the DSM one is to long, M/L one is 2 piece. this will need a mounting point in the tunnel if you are converting a FWD. I have no idea how the Live axle is mounted, but I do know they suffer from wheel hop on launch. Cam |

Well the "Just get an AWD DSM" idea goes out the door since mrcyborg is over here in Australia and there are no DSMs over here... However, New Zealand did get the AWD CB Lancer in various forms so importing one from there might be another (expensive) option. IMO, unless you have alot of cash and time the AWD conversion idea is a no-goer. There is one person I know of in the states who has converted a late-ish model Lancer to AWD using DSM running gear. http://94tsiawd.com/Dragtrix/lancer.html Although from what I hear from that guys posts on NABR it is not a perfect setup. |

well thanx guys for the info. it turned out that when i went to pick the shit up it was an independent rear end that they had put of a cc lancer. i wish i could get the DSM stuff over here it would make is much easier!!! i have seen a awd cd 4door over here and i had a very good look at it. the only modifing i would have to do is cut the spare tyre well out to mount my fuel tank. the front end has a different engine cross member but i have measured up one from the later model cc gsr and that would fit if i could not find the awd cb to use. i would have to move my exhuast from the tunnel. the tail shalf uses the large mount that me currently use for exhuast mounting. remove my fuel tank. bolt up the diff and tail shalf. find some new struts then set up the rear fuel tank and away she goes. this is all from what i have seem of the factory awd cb lancer. it does seem like alot but i would be willing to do that. just cause no one has one done up like mine and to have it awd would be so good. cheers everyone. |

Isn't the CC lancer the AWD version of this car? Or is that the CB Lancer? If it is, then those are the parts you really want, because those should bolt up the easiest. |

CC Lancer is the 92-94ish, included the 1.8T GSR and Evo 1-3 in AWD. DSM's are based on the Galant VR4 so a rear subframe would be available in Oz. AFAIK all CB lancers are very similar weather they be C73 C63 C53 and presumably the C50 as well. And I have what is likely one of the very few (maybe the only) AWD CB Lancer sold new in NZ, as they where never offically sold here, but there are plenty that have been imported second hand over the years. |
