I was reading up on some things and came accros this. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/short-shifter.html do you think we can use it?

If you have access to a welder just cut a 3" or so length of the shifter off and weld the threaded part back onto the bottom. Mine is so short it looks like the only the shift knob is sticking out of the shift boot. It's more of a flick of the wrist thing to shift now.
