Hi guys,
Not long ago I stumbled upon a CK lancer for sale in my area it has a full Evo 4 exterior and interior conversion. I want to know if I can swap a 4g61 in it and what parts I'm going to need. Also can a AWD gearbox bolt on to a 4g61?

unfortunately, that's the first generation of Lancer that has the engine flipped in the bay(engine on left instead of right side, when facing the car). so no 4G61 for you(it was never offered in that orientation), but any 4G63, 64 or 69 out of later cars should fit and bolt in just fine.

With the 4g67 is the same kind of deal?

You're gonna get a lot more help and technical info for the fourth generations and up here https://mirageforums.net/

4g67 is the same block as the 4g63 and 4g61, so no, it is facing the wrong way. As Devo says, you will be looking for engines that were installed on the right side of the engine bay, versus the generation we all know and use here which is on the left hand side of the engine bay. There are some that have installed an engine on the opposite side, but not many and it requires some ingenuity to pull it off.

Thank you a lot guys. Maybe I will look into an evo 3 clone build because the 4g61 swap is a lot cheaper than an 4g92 mivec swap on a evo 4 clone.

Be careful which body style you choose because the 4g61 will use mounts on the motor up front and later 4g63 motors used mounts on the transmission up front. Be sure to know which motor style and bolt pattern for the crank 6 or 7 bolt was in use in all the early evo chassis before starting ahead with the idea of a build using a 4g61 motor.

I am curious as to why your want to swap “only” a 4g61 motor into another platform?
Do you currently have a spare good running motor that needs a frame to sit in?

4g63t in most forms will be a better low end power producers and boost will build sooner for extra torque on the street. Also, it may very well respond better and with less idle issue, to longer duration cams.

Here in Greece you can find a good 4g61 in the 250-500€, now a great condition (good bodywork and paint) CB lancer costs about 1000-1500€. The 4g61 is the best option for me because here everything above 1.8l has high taxes.

You can install a 2.0L if you know where to grind the markings on the block (should anyone want to look for inspection purposes), but it is simply a slightly taller deck height, but externally the same motor visually!

So, you won't have to worry about getting OEM or aftermarket pistons to go turbo charged, and find the slightly less available 4g61 quirky parts like timing belt and water pump, etc.

If you go 6 bolt early style or later style 7 bolt, you will have many more parts available and no one would be the wiser. you could also remove the engine mark behind the dipstick and add your own 4G61 mark. Sneaky, but it's the only way they would be able to tell. I have had both motors, and I suggest the 4g63.
