So back in October I took my 4g63t swapped 91' colt to the 1/4 mile for the first time. The best time I could get was 13.9 on cheap 195/60/14 all season tires. The car would not hook up and wasted all of 1st gear just doing a burnout off the line lol. But I had trap speeds of cars running in the low 12s (110 mph or so), so I know it can go faster if I can hook up.

I'm wondering what size wheels, wheel backspacing and slick tires people run. I'm thinking of getting a pair of 15's. Car is Fwd with Expo brakes/knuckles. 25x10?

Thanks,

Matt

if its not lowered alot u should be abe to run some bfg drag radials in 225/50/15 size on any 15x7" rim -40 offset.. u can even drive on the street with them.

they hook really good at 16ish psi of air..

I would try to go with a 15 inch wheel, cause you're going to be very limited in tire options on a 14. 15x7 with some 235-245 tires and some spacers will probably be your best bet. More than 9 wide is going to be difficult to do without rubbing.

Not very technical on the info, I know. I was running 205/50/14 drag radials on stock expo steel wheels before going awd. It did help shave a couple tenths of my 60 but you really need a LSD to get the most out of it.

I had 89 mirage turbo waay back. went through three sets of nitto drag radials 195/45/15 when they were available.. 2.3 60fts prior. 1.9 60 fts with the nittos. the nittos were heavy like 24lbs. they made the car a ball to drive. putting new ones on was always a disappointment. the 5lbs per side of new tread was instantly noticeable. after I sold the car i later found dunlop made a drag radial. 205/50/15. better size and freaky light at 17lbs. I wanted another 89 mirage just to try them. not many peopl know about the dunlops. so hard to find feedback on them. I found a civic running them to high 11s cutting 1.6 60fts!

I also tried the bf goodrich 235/60/15 drag radial. local had some for sale and he let me try them. hated them. too tall. killed the fun factor.

are you sure its -40? that would result in about 2" backspacing would would mean a pretty deep dish wheel look when looking at the car. +40mm would be more realistic right? on a 7" wide wheel that would be about a 5" backspace.

Stock 14" wheels are 14x5.5. I gotta measure them still. I have stock 14's of an 89 mirage. The ones that look like corvette wheels.

Ya that is what he meant. I just put on a pair of 15x6.5 wheels with 40 offset and they fit great.

I run 15" factory Hyundai Tiburon wheels on 22.5x7.5x15 slicks, good for 1.80 60ft with open diff and low 12s. They should hit 11s easily this season on e85.

Don't waste your time with a drag radial. Just get a set of bias ply slicks and swap them when you are ready to race. M&H makes an affordable 23"slick. Decent tire and will take you pretty far. Any bigger and you have to worry about suspension clearance.
