It never hurts to use the oil cooler, just keep on top of oil changes and the condition of the hoses.

I also agree....don't ditch the oil cooler if you've got one already. They help a lot more than people think. I installed a universal oil cooler in a newer model Subaru about two years ago, and I believe we saw the transmission temperature drop by over 15* fahrenheit.
