I have a 95 Hyundai elantra with a 4g63t swap in it. The car has a 2g 609 maf,450cc injectors, 255lph fuel pump, resistor pack, with no brand afpr, and also has stock o2 sensor in it. Ok what happening is the car is running rich to rich to drive, if I put the fuel pressure 43 stock the car will start up easy but throw a lot of black smoke and run ruff, now if I turn the pressure on my afpr to around 20 to nothing it idles at 600 to 800 rpms an runs ok but with a little smoke and hard to start especially cold. If u drive the car for a little bit it will burn your eyes. I'm stumped please help!

I take it you have a gauge on the fpr? also its suppose to be set at 38 with the small vacuum hose disconnected.

with that 2g maf and only 450s it should be running lean... to keep it even u use 550s with the 2g maf... if you can find a set of 550s locally and cheap I would try them..if not then...

try resetting the fpr to 38 without the hose on...and if it still runs rich I would think its the no name fpr is bad... with a 255 pump u should use a good/name brand fpr.. if for nothing else its for a good piece of mind..

I forgot to add.. also check and make sure the temp sensor by the t-stat is good..and the correct wires are connected to it.. if its bad or the wrong wires the ecu will read that its -40 degrees and richen it up alot.... sometimes to the point the car is hard to start and lots of black smoke when it does...and runs like crap.

Your car is running rich because it has a bunch of parts that shouldn't be on it. No name AFPR needs to go, the 2g mas needs to go unless you have a good way to tune the car. Put the stock parts back on until you have a way to tune and monitor actual AFR.

with the afpr at 39-40 when standing out of the car giving it gas the engine starts to flutter then smooth but if I bring the afpr to around 20ish it runs good with no flutter. thinking the afpr is bad?

None of them did. The EVO 8-9 has 560cc injectors stock. Larger injectors aren't going to solve your problem right now. What ECU are you running?

Probably not the FPR. You have no way to tune the air/fuel mixture. By turning the fuel pressure way down, you're making it run leaner, so that's probably helping the flutter issue, but I wouldn't recommend driving it that way. Try putting a stock FPR on it, there's no real need for an adjustable one if you're mostly stock.

Without a wideband o2sensor and a gauge or logging tool you are never going to know what your problems are. Never ever....
get one
