Post subject:  axle lengths

My new car only came with a long driver axle. My friend was throwing away an original c53a half shaft the bolts to the block. He let me bring home a 2g setup to measure against my stock axle. Looks like the full 2g setup is about an inch longer than my Axle. Are the 1g outer driver's axles or c53a axles any shorter? I would much rather have a carrier bearing on the driver axle of I could help it. I plan on making some big power with this thing.

2g axles are longer than 1gs and 1gs are a little bit longer than c53a, look on oreilly auto parts catalog they have pictures of the axles with the measurements of each, that's how you can tell exactly how much longer is one from another...

Looking at their catalog I need a CSM axle to get this to be about the same length as my Cordia axle. Now to track one down. Would like a large stock axle and not a tiny aftermarket one. I would sacrifice for a lifetime warranty though.

Pay attention to page 8.

I had posted these pics before but can't find the thread right now on my limited connection. So I'll share them again. This is a Rock Auto CSM axle and factory CSM intermediate shaft compared to a 1g DSM manual trans axle and intermediate shaft.

The shorter thicker axle is the Rock Auto CSM axle. And the thicker intermediate shaft is the factory CSM shaft.

I just places the order and called the manufacturer. Granted I am dealing with someone sitting behind a computer but he is telling me it is the long one piece axle like the 1.5L cars have. Anymore insight or part numbers so I can verify? It sounds like i cannot cancel my order and will have to do a return if it is incorrect.

I don't see it listed on Rock Auto anymore. Here is the part number of the one I got, EMPI 80-4064. Doing a google search came up with this link.

http://www.carpartkings.com/empi-front- ... -4064.html The picture they show looks just like the one I got. It's thicker than the factory axle I had. Hope this helps. I'm on vacation right now and my internet connection has been sketchy at best.

Those people have not made the axle in two years. I called CARQUEST as I knew they used to. The part numbers have changed but, I paid for on and it is the correct length. I will pick it up tomorrow and give everyone the parts number. It was $70.

I just ordered a left and right axle from Carquest. They said the left one was the last one and they have 4 more right sides left, but they said something about having other brands too. They are new manufactured so no core charge. They are $70.
